RE: 2 cycle oil in diesel tank?

I have been using Walmart's Super Tech 2 stroke oil in my 97' 7.3 for years. I use about 1 oz per gallon. It does quieten the motor down a good bit and as this motor was not designed to run the low sulphure diesel...I use the truck almost exclusively to pull the rv. The new trucks and motors I'm sure don't need it.

RE: Final Drive Ratio

Thanks for the reply....I have an auto now and am constantly watching my tranny temp gauge and just want more control over driving situations. The tranny also unlocks the TQ when you push on the brake so going downhill I lose the motor as a stopping device. Thanks

Final Drive Ratio

I currently have a 97 ford diesel I use to pull a 5th wheel,10k loaded. Next year I plan to possibly get an 05-07 Dodge Diesel SRD 2500/3500 with the 6 speed manual tranny. My question is what is the best final drive gear ratio (rear end). Also do you normally tow in 6th. Thanks for the help.

RE: RV Voltage Drop

Sam....when you say "the main box" is that at the fuse panel or someplace near convertor? I'll look at those connections after work today. I am checking voltage inside rv at an electrical outlet near kitchen sink with digital multi-meter. I also have the little square voltage meter that plugs into outlet. It reads about 1 volt less than the multi-meter. Thanks

RE: RV Voltage Drop

I have a hughes autoformer and used it last week on spring break and even though the voltage at the park was below 112 at various times it never came on. I'll have to call Hughes about that. Thanks

RE: RV Voltage Drop

Well I don't really use the pedestal power for much of anything except to keep the batteries charged and occasionally maybe run the heater if it is cold in there while I'm doing little rv chores. I'm more concerned about the voltage drop while we are out rving. Thanks for the help

RE: RV Voltage Drop

The pedestal (female 30 amp rv plug) to the rv is only about 3 feet. I think the rv shore cable is 30 ft. When I built the rv building I ran about 100 ft of 10/3 wire from the breaker box at a power pole to another breaker box in the building. I ran the same wire from the building breaker box to a female rv plug..about 10 feet. I don't really have a pedestal it is just a female rv plug. Could the shore cable be the problem?

RE: RV Voltage Drop

Yes I have the stock 10 gauge shore power cord. I have the kind that is stored in the rv sidewall. I'm not sure if a 6 gauge would fit in there. So the 10 gauge shore power cord is somewhat too small or marginal? Thanks

RE: RV Voltage Drop

I checked at the rv pedestal 123.5...nothing plugged in....it is the same inside the rv. I turned 1500 watt heater on and then checked pedestal. It is 119 at pedestal and inside rv it is 112. Left heater on and then turned microwave on and it is 113.5 at pedestal and 106 in rv. I have about 100 feet of 10 gauge wire running to rv pedestal from the breaker box...transformer sits above breaker box. Does that seems like a big drop inside rv?
Thanks for the replies

RE: RV Voltage Drop

I was using my Hughes autoformer last week at the CG and It never came on though the voltage at the pedestal was less than 112 at varius times when the park was full. I need to call them about that. At home the voltage is normally about 123....when I use the autoformer it jumps to 125.5volts. I thought above 115 it is supposed to bypass? I would think the voltage would be the same 123? Thanks

RE: RV Voltage Drop

That is why I replaced the shore plug last week while camping as it was getting hot. The insulation of the black and white wires were stuck together. It is not getting hot now but I still see the voltage drop

RE: RV Voltage Drop

Thanks for the reply. I noticed it at the last CG and now back at home. It has always dropped some. If the CG voltage and RV drop are the same..would that indicate the source being the problem? Thanks

RV Voltage Drop

I have an 04' Fleetwood Wilderness 5th wheel. I have noticed that when I turn on an electric heater, 1500 watts, the voltage drops about 7 or 8 volts and then when I turn on the microwave it will drop another 7 or 8 volts. Is this normal? I thought the problem was my shore line plug and recently replaced it but it made no difference. It has been like this a long time. The above appliances are all that would be running except the normal power going to the convertor. Are the electrical wires inside the rv too small? Thanks
