RE: 2006 6.0 oil drain plug

I doubt oil pan has been changed. I bought it used but low milage and oasis report showed no previous work. Thanks for replies.

2006 6.0 oil drain plug

Decided to change my own oil rather than using the dealer and when I removed the drain plug, I found they had rigged a hard fiber washer (which had split) instead of the usual copper gasket. Called dealer, and asked about buying the copper gasket and/or a new plug. Long story short, they don't stock either. Since they were the original culprits who left off the copper gasket, I went online and ordered a new plug and gasket from a different dealer. Came in today, and the new plug has a flat shoulder and flat copper washer. The one in my truck, has a beveled shoulder, like it is countersunk into the pan. Called the supplying dealer and he confirmed that is the only plug Ford uses and should be correct. Has anyone run across a plug with a beveled shoulder? I must admit, my plug looks like the bevel may have been fabricated out of some type of hard material, because I can scrape it with a knife and it seem to shave off some of the material. I am going to drain all the new oil out, and do some serious looking as to rather or not the flat shouldered plug will work..again, has anyone run across a beveled plug in their 6.0?
By the way, when I removed the oil filter, they had also left the broken end of an old filter still in the removable cap so I have been bypassing oil around the top of the filter. What geniuses!!!!

RE: Norcold Quit Cooling

Mine did the same thing, I disconnected the thermistor, which puts it in a non automatic mode, ie. temperature is controlled by time on, then time off...this proved the ammonia and cooling part is working,,I bought a new thermistor when I got home and all is well...although my old thermistor tested good...I even put the old thermistor back on and it works fine...saved the new one for a backup..what was broke and why it started working I don't know..

RE: Norcold error 1 121XXX series

On mine, 1 is the lowest cooling setting. Try holding the temp button until it climbs up. 9 is maximum cool....Mine is a 1200LIMR,,2006 model.
Also if somehow it is in the diagnostic mode, 1 is the first code, then scrolling thru to 10 to diagnose different functions in real time.

RE: vacuum break valve

Actually, the item you are probably refering to is a mechanical vent. I have 3 on my 5th wheel, one under the bath sink, one under the kitchen sink and one under the shower. And yes, if they go bad it will allow sewer gas into the trailer. I have only one thru the roof vent for both my tanks.

RE: New AC pops breaker

Actually you have a tandem or piggy back breaker, not a 2 pole. Both handles feed off the same circuit. Yes they do make tandem in different amp ratings, but be aware any heat caused by the load on either circuit will transmit to the other, thus increasing the chances of tripping since breakers are thermal magnetic. I would see if there is room for 2 separate single pole breakers and separate any high load (a/c, microwave, water heater) breakers as far apart as possible in your panel.

RE: Onan LP Generator starts fine quits under load

Sounds like it is starving for fuel,,I had to install separate regulator just for generator. This is what Onan says is necessary. You could light a burner on your stove and watch the flame when the generator tries to load up. Mine would go completely off,,generator takes 11-13 in. wc to run.

RE: Need reassurance or new truck,,opinions wanted

Thanks for all the opinions,,,I guess I was leaning towards keeping the truck, although new truck, has a nice ring to it...I absolutely love everything about my truck so really keeping it seems to be the financial and practical choice...anyways, my wife keeps looking at motorhomes so this all may be a mute point anyway,,since she usually (always) gets what she wants..haha

Need reassurance or new truck,,opinions wanted

Here's my situation, bought a 2006 F350 DRW Crew cab, just what I was looking for last Sept. Oasis report was good, two items under warranty repaired. I think I got a good deal, paid around $18K. Had 45K miles and have been driving around town for the past 8 months. Noticed the puking of anti-freeze occassionaly. Took a 2000 mile trip last month towing 16,000 lb. fifth wheel, 2000 miles. Did great, more than enough power, no problem, no overheating, averaged 10mpg. Came back, had dealer look at puking antifreeze,,,,and said head gaskets were leaking,(typical problem). Had new EGR valve and headgaskets, all under warranty,,,no big deal. I even have extended warranty to cover deductables and anything else for next 40,000 miles. Now I went new truck shopping today, and was offered $20,000 trade on ford or dodge of my choice, but I am leary of the new 6.4 PSD and I have never owned a Dodge. My truck has everything I want and more than I need in options, but getting antsy on future problems,,,we live in our 5th wheel full time, but still work for a living, and will not be doing a lot of traveling in the next year,,retirement date counting down. The 2 trucks I am looking at really one has more than I want, the other has a few things lacking..question is, should I just kick back and enjoy my paid for truck and try not to worry, or bite the bullet and get a new truck while my trade in has some value..I know the final answer is mine, but would appreciate some opinions..thanks

Just toured the Open Range factory in Shipshewana and I think, for what it's worth, they make a very good fifth wheel and I believe it may bear looking at.

NE Texas to Shipshewana

Will be leaving in a week from NE Texas going to Shipshewana. Have looked at 2 routes, one takes me up I55 to I57 to I70 to Indianapolis...the other takes me thru Nashville and north on I65 to Indianapolis. Both routes are about same milage...was just wondering opinions from anyone who has traveled these routes and which would be the better route. Will be towing large 5th wheel with 350 Ford PSD...thanks

RE: Where do these bars and this bolt go?

The bolt is either for turning the front jacks down in case the motor fails OR for lowering a spare tire, mine is stored under the rear of my trailer

RE: Onan 5.5 on Propane

One thing you may want to be aware of. On my Onan 5.5 propane generator, Onan required that a separate regulator to be used and NOT to use the appliance line because the generator will starve any propane appliance and if and when the pressures return, you will have lost your flame and will be exposed to propane gas. Trust me on this one, as I had to install a separate regulator to feed my generator. I know others may have a different experience, but mine was definately just like Onan said...I have had no problems since installing a separate regulator, and also Onan has a maximum piping distance from regulator to generator which should be observed. That being said, yes it uses a lot of propane but I only use it for power outages and such and don't do any dry camping...

RE: LP Generator and Furnace Conflict?

On my original setup, the generator was tapped off a tee in the line feeding the entire trailer, so in affect, it was just another item being fed off the regulator. It was also the first item being fed, so upon running it actually seemed to rob the entire system of propane, thus my stove would go out. Another problem I was experiencing was trying to run 2 a/c's and the generator wouldn't get enough propane to run under that much load. I did purchase a good regulator, not an rv type. I don't remember the name but can look it up later, but I got it off e-bay and it is working great. I just bought the stuff at Lowes, piping and fittings and was lucky enough that the flexible rubber line feeding the generator was long enough to reach my new regulator and it was quite simple to do.New setup is thus, right bottle feeds directly to new tee, new tee feeds downward to new regulator, new regulator feeds just the generator. and other side of tee feeds thru to switchover valve, so I still have use of both bottles for entire trailer. Left bottle feeds directly to switchover valve. This setup means the left bottle cannot feed generator, but that is OK because now I can run generator off right bottle, trailer off left or I can run everything off right bottle, Hope this helps

RE: LP Generator and Furnace Conflict?

Had similar issues with my 06 Escalade...couldn't run generator and oven at same time. Reading literature with generator, Onan says do not run the generator off the same line as appliances,,,generator takes its own regulator to keep pressure high enough to run..I piped in a new regulator that feeds just the generator off one bottle as well as feeding the changover valve and the other bottle is feeding the changover valve. No problems now...also I bought a manometer and monitored all pressures before and after the problem was discovered and confirmed that the new regulator indeed was the answer..may do a search under my name krmcg, and read the thread and my findings.

RE: KZ the good, bad and the ugly please !

Here' my 2 cents worth. We bought a used (1 owner)2006 Escalade to live in full time before we retire and have lived in it for 1 year. It is a beautiful rig and I am sure there are rigs out there that may be comparable. We had one hinge break and KZ sent me 2 new ones, no questions, I also have emailed them several times and have quick response. There are few design issues which I have corrected, but I am sure all manufactureres have design issues. Here recently, I noticed a leak on the floor of the bedroom slide and contacted them asking for assistance in locating the possible source of the leak and that is all I expected. They told me to bring the unit back in and they would repair any damage and go over the whole unit, at no cost to me. To me that is excellent service for an out of warranty, second owner unit. Would I buy another KZ? Would definately be on my short list and

RE: LED strip light bar

I ordered the thin lite ballasts and they mounted in my liteco fixture easily, however, for whatever reasons, the ballast only lasted a few months then burnt out...I just ordered 2 new thin lite fixtures and replaced the old liteco fixture...
