RE: New York City

I'll second that secret, Croton on Hudson is the find of the year. Beautiful camground, convenient train ride to mid town Manhattan, and reasonable rates.
Can't beat the deal!

RE: Yellowstone Mid September

We stayed at Fishing Bridge for 2 weeks in mid September last year and the CG was full every night and the park very busy. we were quite surprised at all the visitors.

RE: What is the optimal pin weight PERCENTAGE of trailer weight?

In practice I don't think there's too much you can do to dramatically effect weight distribution in a fiver. The storage spaces are fixed and in the end don't hold enough to affect redistribution. The basic weight relationship is set with the placement of the heavy fixtures within the layout.
The best way to change the distribution would be minor repositioning of the axles, and that's not practical.

RE: What do other States Charge for Excise/Property Tax on RV?

Come to Wisconsin. I pay $15 a year for the fiver and $150 for the truck. That's all!

RE: Disc Brakes on Fiver and Dodge Integrated Brake Controller

For current information, I would suggest you join the Yahoo Carriage group.

I'm sure there are members towing disk brakes with a Dodge.
Good luck,

RE: Ok, how many men "let" their wives or s/o pull a 5th wheel?

I generally drive in the morning and then after lunch she drives and I tilt back and take a nap. Isn't life wonderful?? :-)

RE: To axle flip or not?

I don't understand Carriages response. Flipping your axles in no way changes the fore and aft position, so how could it affect the center of gravity? When you call the factory they sometimes give you to a regional sales manager. I would call back and ask to speak to someone in engineering.
Good luck

RE: Carriage Cameos

Our 06 came with shocks and a couple of them broke up in Alaska. We noticed the difference and had them replaced when we were back at the factory.

If you have questions about a Carriage product why not ask it at their Yahoo group? Lot of helpful Carriage owners there.

RE: Tires

I think it's always smart to move up a size when changing tires, because the manufacturers almost always put on the smallest, lightest tire that will meet the specs for the trailer. You can't go wrong with higher rated tires.
We went from 80# E rated to 110# G's.

RE: stabilizers

I have the ultra fabs with dual motors and they not only work great, but you don't need to put blocks under the low side. Definitely worth it.

RE: A question for full-timers or those on road ALOT.

We sold everything and went full time just over 4 years ago and haven't looked back once, with any thought except "why didn't we do this sooner", We hope we can do this for the rest of our lives.
Everybody is different though, you have to do what you think is right.

RE: Ideal pin weight

Everything I've read has said it should be between 10 and 20%. for a 15,000# trailer that would be 1,500 to 3,000#. I don't think you would want any more than that sitting on the truck unless you had a 350 diesel dually.
