RE: Wine rack

I'm into home-made wine making and have turned out some really tasty ones. When we travel I keep some bottles in one of the basement bins but am going to build for the basement what I did at home to store my newly bottled creations. I built a rack wide enough and tall enough below my fermenter pail and carboy container that will hold the 1.5 liter bottles in 4" PVC pipes cut to 12" long and 3" PVC pipes hold the 750 ml bottles perfectly. They are stacked side by side and you can mix the 4" and 3" until you get them to fit tight in rows. I will build a box for the basement that will do the same thing. It will protect the bottles nicely.

RE: Obsolete RVs

Get ahold of Walts RV in Fontana, California. I have been there many times and it is the biggest junk yard of both new and used parts from Fleetwood that you have ever seen in your life! They have everything!

RE: Triton V10

We have a 2000 Pace Arrow 37S and it has the improved 310 hp V-10. No problems at all and it does have the power. Mileage is not too good though but I highly recommend the 01 or later.

RE: ford f53 cruise control

I received a recall notice and Ford replaced a wiring harness for free. I have a 2000 Pace Arrow gasser and have never had a problem with mine. In fact, the cruise control does everything possible to try to keep my speed within 2 MPH of its setting!

Turbo charge a gasser really cheap!?

I wish I knew how to insert something here since I scanned a very interesting article but since I can't, here is the jist of that article. Lamont Sordahl of Bullhead City, Arizona wrote a Quick Tip in the June issue of Motorhome Magazine. He showed a drawing of how his suggestion would work. Basically, he used a stack boot in front but behind the grill of 3 different motorhomes he had, and that was connected to a short piece of 4" dryer vent tubing. Then that was connected to a bilge blower that he said moved 230 cubic feet of air a second and draws only 3.5 amps. From the blower he used 4" dryer vent tubing again to connect to the front of the air cleaner. He installed a switch in the cab and when going up hills or needing extra power to pass he threw the switch and the blower supercharged his engine. He says the "stack boot delivers an ample supply of cool air to the engine and when not turned on the blower impeller offers little resistance to airflow." On top of the power he said his gas mileage went from 7.8 to 9.2 MPG at speeds of 65 to 70 MPH. This installation looks amazingly simple and inexpensive but I am looking to the experts to comment on this tip! If anyone can tell me how this article that I scanned can be inserted here, please let me know. I would like to do this on my 2000 Pace Arrow which only gets 7 to 8 MPG.

Big Arizona park with classes & maybe silversmithing?

I plan to spend most of the winter in Arizona somewhere and would be looking for a park or location that would offer hopefully, silversmithing classes. Any help from all you pro travelers out there?

Any damage towing an automatic in neutral?

If you put a Chevy S-10 4WD automatic transfer case in neutral, and then put the gearshift in neutral, would the S-10 suffer any transmission damage or create a drag on the motorhome over a long trip? Thanks all you experts!

Is Scan Gauge II worth it?

I have a 2000 Fleetwood Pace Arrow F-53 chassis with the Ford V-10 and an Allison tranny. I am thinking about buying and installing the Scan Gauge II so I have diagnostic ability in addition to all the other features. Does this gauge also give you transmission temperature and any other worthwhile information that is not on their website ad? Is this unit worth it? Thanks so much. ( NOTE: Thanks so much for clarifying that I have a Ford tranny. Also, I looked all over for the OBD connector which is supposed to be near the steering column and I can't find it anywhere. Any suggestions for my RV type?)

Allison tranny won't upshift

On a trip from Washington State East on the interstate my 2003 Winnebago Itasca Horrizon pusher diesel with an allison 6 speed decided not to upshift after downshifting when going up a grade. There are no funny sounds and the engine sounds fine but without going into higher gears I am being restricted to 40 MPH. I checked the fluid and it is up to the mark. I am stuck in Pendleton, Oregon but luckily right across the freeway from an Allison repair shop and can't get help until tomorrow (Monday). Do any of you have any suggestions on what might be wrong? Thanks so much.

What gear to put toad in when towing?

I'm pulling a 1999 Jeep Wrangler all 4 down, transfer case in neutral, what gear should I have the stick shift in and why? The manual says put in gear but they don't say which one. Thanks so much.

RE: Skylight

If you are in southern california be sure to check out Walt's RV in Fontana. He has the biggest junkyard of Fleetwood parts you have ever seen. You probably would find hundreds of skylights there and some of them are even new. I have shopped there many times for my Pace Arrow and always found what I was looking for, and more!

Give me answers on sulfiting batteries.

The battery shop where I just replaced all three of my batteries didn't even know what I was talking about when I told them I thought my starting problems were because of sulfited batteries. After I would put my battery charger on what appeared to be a totally dead engine battery in about 2 minutes the needle read fully charged and the motor home started right up. That happened a number of times and I finally just bit the bullet and replaced all of them. I read about sulfited batteries every once in a while in motor home magazine or the Highways but have never had a complete description of what that is, or what can be done to prevent it. Can any of you brilliant RVers help me with that? Thanks again to a super knowledgeable group!

Great road East out of Cody, Wyoming!

I had submitted the question of roads East out of Cody, Wyoming and many of you responded. The consensus was that the road from Cody to either Ranchester or Buffalo was very steep, along side the steep cliffs which don't always have guard rails (which didn't get my wifes vote at all) and you would need to downshift and ride the brakes all the way down and would not have time for the driver to sight see! The suggested route instead by many of you, down to Thermopolis and then East to Casper and then up the Interstate to Buffalo was a good one! A good country road and some nice things to see along the way including the worlds largest mineral hot springs. For all of you who have been there and done that, thanks for the great suggestions.

Banks Power System for Pace Arrow?

I just finished a 4,600 mile trip in our 2000 Pace Arrow. It has the Triton V-10 with 310 HP and we pulled a 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport. The Triton loves high RPM's and downshifted many times going up hills with the cruise control on. It is disturbing that it also downshifts with even a small grade and I would think the Banks Power System would solve that. I am looking for all your expert opinions on how this system would work on our MH. Also, what price did that installation cost you and would it affect any warranty? Our gas mileage was right around 7 MPG, not great at all and luckily, gas prices were a little less than I had forecast for our trip. Also, how long does it take to install one of these and who would be the best to take it to? We live near Twin Falls, Idaho so don't have a lot to pick from. Camping World is 2 hours away in Boise. Thank you so much in advance.

Need Help! Jeep transfer case won't shift to 2H

After towing our 1999 Jeep Wrangler off and on for over 2000 miles after disconnecting this time it won't go into 2H. I can shift the transfer case to 4WD high or 4WD low and also neutral but can't get the transfer case to go into 2H. Any suggestions? Thanks so much again you bunch of super wise big rig roaders!

Best road East from Yellowstone?

I posted here before and received some great helpful answers. I'm going east, through Yellowstone to Cody. Many of you advised against going east through Greybull and to Ranchester or Buffalo due to the steep grades, winding roads, and a 2000 foot drop off the passenger side where there are no guardrails (My wife immediately vetoed this route) My alternative to get back on I-90 would be to go from Cody north to catch the I-90 and curve through Billings all the way down to head east again near Buffalo and that is a long way! Question: how is the road from Cody southeast on scenic 120 to Thermopolis, south to Shoshoni/Bonneville and then east on 20 to catch the I-25 North at Evansville and head north to get on the I-90 East again? It looks scenic but not winding and I don't see mountainous grades. Your comments would be greatly appreciated, as always.

How is the road east out of Yellowstone

I have a 39' motor home with a Jeep tow car and will be heading into the West entrance of Yellowstone. We plan to park the motor home in the park and tour the park in our Jeep. Is there a place to park the motor home? Secondly, when leaving the park we would like to head East around Yellowstone Lake and take highway 14 & 20 through Cody and Greybull and on up the 14 to join Interstate 90 at Ranchester. How is that road to drive using our rig? Thanks for all the help.
