MOBILE TOOL BOX

Hello, the Rookie RVer here with a question for you. What should be the "minimum" tools I carry in RV at all times? I have never had a situation so far where I needed serious tools (other than a good leatherman). I always carry extra "camping stuff" so I can help out others like water hose (fresh), water regulator, stuff you put in tank to sanitize, flashlight, rope, extention cords, etc. If the list I am asking for is too long please send a private message. This is important to me.......

RE: motor home

A "battery kill switch" (for lack of a better term). Assuming you have correctly connected the battery my guess is that unknowingly the switch to kill/disconnect crank battery is in off position. Not sure how well you know your RV but search for battery kill....on/off switch.

RE: Restless.

Speechless!! Just plain speechless!! Thats exactly where I am. I did what I thought was right and believed I paid my dues. Grew up in New York City and beat the odds. Raised by a single parent along with a younger brother and two younger sisters, graduated high school, achieved college degrees, honorably served 23 yrs in Coast Guard and retired. Somewhere, somehow something went terribly wrong. Well maybe not wrong but....okay here it is......been married coming up on 16 years, daughter who just moved back home (with young grandson), son who still has six more years til he graduates from high school. Let me break it down for you....married for so many years means I have a mortgage; daughter back home because financially she can not stand on her own, this means I STILL must provide for her and grandson (when she left there was no grandson); twelve year old son is too young to (legally) get a job yet old enough to ask for pairs of sneakers that cost the same amount or more than filling my RV gas tank up. They don't know nor do they understand that underneath this calm, peaceful, poised, gentle, caring, exteria is a calm, peaceful, poised, gentle, caring husband, dad, granddad that wants to just go. No more hard times, no more bad times, no more sad times, just the open road to whereever and whenever I want, being seen through the windshield of my motorhome...............speechless! If I was granted just one wish that came true........

RE: Best coach names

She's refered to as, "Da Rookie". I was proud when I first got my Class A. It was my retirement present from me to me (retired Coast Guard after 23yrs). But it wasn't until my first "real" trip to Myrtle Beach when we stayed at KOA that I saw how much Class A I didn't have. We got there after night fall and was assisted by campground personnel in backing in. Set up was one, two, three.....plug in electric, plug in water, and set up sewer line. We were surrounded by a nice travel trailer on one side and a nice pop up on the other side. They watched us back in, and set up with what I thought was amazement but found out latter they were looking with "wonderment" instead. Well, set up directly across from us was a REAL Class A. It was about 40 feet with three slides. After we walked around the campground to "see" we got back to ours and my wife looked at the one across from ours and then looked at ours and said, "ROOKIE"! Our immediate neighbors didn't know Class A's came so small. Ya see, we have a Rexhall Vision 25.:C Every since she has been refered to as Da Rookie

RE: MYRTLE BEACH

The two you've mentioned are nice but we found and stayed at the KOA located there and it was nice. Its within walking distance to the beach, and the amusement boardwalk. We came across it by accident when turning around to go back to RV park. We ended up staying for five days and it was not expensive. In fact Myrtle Beach stay at the KOA is probably at the top of our list as one of the surprisingly nicest place we have stayed. We did not have to use our towable because of our location. If you are not looking for this KOA you would miss it. The location is great! Not sure how you feel about KOA's but this one was great. Possibly because it is up against the two other RV parks located there.

RE: RV Shopping/Buying at RV Show

First understand that going to RV shows are FUN!!! There is sooooo much about rving that you may not know and going to the show will bring "stuff" or things that you didn't think of. When buying a Class A why not make your first purchase your last purchase? Get to know, learn, and/or hear about things and one of the best place (other than this site) would be at an RV show. There are features out there you would be interested in but currently don't know about them.....it may present itself at the RV show. There is a caution to all of this though.......be careful cause its contagious!! Rookie Rver

RE: Seat belts for those who are in the back?

This was my first question when I first started RVing several years ago. Out of all the advice, answers, and/or suggestions I received this one stands out the most......."its YOUR family, better safe than sorry". When traveling in a vehicle weighing at least five tons or more at 60-65 mph it doesn't take much to throw passengers. BE SAFE.......not sorry

NEED LITTLE BIT MORE CLARIFICATION REDARDING BATTERY STORAGE

:C Hello, it's the Rookie Rver and I need a little bit more clarification regarding battery storage. I had a 30amp plug installed on the side of the house so I can plug the motor home in believing this would keep batteries charged but the cranking battery went completely dead. I believe I have found that the carbon monoxide detector is pulling the juice from the cranking battery. It has no on/off switch; its always on. Do I need to have a charge on the cranking battery to the motor home in addition to having the 30amp plugged in? Has my Rookie Rver status still got the best of me and I am over looking something?

RE: Kids and Setting up Camp

My 12yr old son and his friends thought it was funny a couple of years ago when I told them they had to set up their tent. When night fall came around I went into the motor home for the night and life got real serious for them real quick. I taught and they practiced in the backyard days before actually camping but even then they did not take it serious. After that night sleeping ON their tent they spent the next morning setting up their area BEFORE they carried on with their day. Now, everytime we go and new friends come along they are sure to pass on the rule that dad is not setting up your camping area. They set up and break down and clean any/all equipment they use. They also learned the lesson of how important it is to properly put this away ready for next trip. If not it will be there waiting for them...... They still love and enjoy camping and each trip encourage other friends to come along!

RE: Thievery at my Storage Site!

BE CAREFUL!! When storing your motor home at a facility understand it is all likely that there is someone(s) who rent a space also. This gives them access to the facility thats all......and thats all they need....

WHAT'S YOUR IDEAL MOTOR HOME / RV CAMP GROUND.......

Hello, its the Rookie RVer! :) In 2007 I posted this question looking for feedback from you. Since then we (DW) have moved forward and made tremdous progress. We have directed the majority of our energy and resources toward achieving our goal. I wanted to present / post this again.......what would you consider YOUR ideal RV Park? We are not creating a "resort" type RV park. Our focus is on affordable, safe, friendly, comfortable, motor home / rv camping. Describe your ideal motor home / rv camp ground......
