RE: Good Sam ERS; Are they loosing touch?

I hope you have better luck getting cards out of them than I have. Two years straight with no new cards. They have even reissued them twice (they say). Still no new cards.

RE: Why does my oven take so long to light?

Same as some other have said. Turn the knob past pilot to about 350, light the pilot, it will come on. Don't know why it works this way, but it was a hastle until we learned to do this.

RE: 2500HD Squeals

I have a 2000 with the 6.0. It also makes a sound, not sure you would exactly call it a squeal, mine seesm to be more of a whine, until the transmission warms up a little. It seems to be something about the transmission to get to operating temp quicker. At least that seems to be on mine.

RE: roof ladders

Had one without ladder and one with. Get the ladder. It is especially usfully for getting leaves and branches off of the slide before you bring it in. Where the ladder attaches may be one of the least likely places for a leak on the roof.

RE: 2007 2wd f150 towing

I probably have the same Cruiser you have. I began towing it with a '98 F150 with the 4.6. It handled the camper O.K., but did not like hills. I eventually upgraded to a Chevy 2500. But the F150 with the 5.4 should do just fine. Make sure you have a good weight distrubution system. Ford has upgraded their syspension since '98, but it could still be a litte soft without a good w/d. With a good brake control, the brakes on the F150 will do just fine. Larry

RE: Using RV Furnace to avoid frozen pipes?

I live in Northwest Alabama and we do get some cold weather. Twice I have not winterized the plumbing for the winter if we were going to be using the camper. Just set the thermostat to about 50 degrees. You will use propane, but not as much as you might think, especially since most days the temperature will probably reach into the 50's. If you do not have your 5th wheel at home to where you can keep an eye on it, then by all means go ahead and winterize. As others have stated, it doesn't take long to unwinterize the unit if you need to use it. Larry

RE: Every hose I get leaks at the connections!!!

The crimped fittings on the male end is where mine ususally leaks. Where mine fastens to the camper is already at an angle. I just assume it is the Wal-Mart hoses I buy. (No flaming of Wal-Mart intended.)

RE: Ex-FEMA trailers question

I can't help you with what to look for, but, I was on the Mississippi coast after Katrina helping with some disaster relief. One of the houses we worked on had a large unit behind the house that was not a typical FEMA unit. This was a high end unit with multiple slides. I understand from talking with the local folks FEMA went to some dealers and purchased all their inventory. This unit had three slides and was being used by a widow. If you could find one like this you could possible get a bargain. Go look over the inventory before the sale. Larry

RE: opposing slides in a living room in a 28-34 foot TT?

Not only does Crossroads have the Zinger, they also have a Cruiser with a "great room" with two slides and a slide in the front bedroom. It also has a V shaped front. It is 31+ feet long. Have not seen one in person, but I sure like what I have seen on the Website. Larry

RE: How hot is to hot for transmission

I don't know about the 5.3, but my 6.0 never gets above 200. At about 190 the fan will lock in and bring it back down. The water temp never moves. Even in the mountains of Wyoming this summer, it never got above 190, but the fan was doing some singing. Larry

RE: Can't BELIEVE what we saw!!

If he was from Tennessee or North Alabama, he may have it "set up" to go around the hills. Larry

RE: Do You Talk To Your GPS?

Yes. Mildred gets talked to when she does stupid things, like trying to get me to leave the road and drive in the creek next to it, or when we were traveling through Wyoming and she kept trying to get us to turn into every fence entrance we came to. "Turn around when possible." I sometimes hear it in my sleep. Larry

RE: Ride report - 2005 2500HD 6.0 - 9,700 lb 5th wheel

I have a 2000 2500 with the 6.0. Did a 4000 plus mile trip this summer pulling a 28ft. TT. Engine did fine, even in the mountains of Wyoming into Yellowstone. It does like the gas at 3000 plus RPM's, especially into a head wind.

RE: Travel trailer purchase

We have enjoyed our Cruiser by Crossroads. Have had it over 4 years with few problems. Crossroads makes 3 different brands of travel trailers, most of which could be towed with your vehicle. I am not sure if there is a dealer in your area that carries any of them, but would be well worth a look. Larry

RE: Fifth Wheel Website help

The Coachmen (Coachman) website use to have their fifth wheels broken down by 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton trucks. I have not visited the site in some time and do not know if it still is in operation since boughtout by Forrest River.
