RE: Install a bike rack on the back bumper

I have three bikes with the bolt on adapter but I don't recommend it.

RE: Checking power polarity, grounding, etc at the pedestal

Paper shredders and electric heaters are not voltage sensitive. Besides they did not cost anywhere near as much as the surge protector. This is exactly my point, the total costs of the protectors is far greater then the cost of the failures they prevented. The main item in the RV is the AC which requires protection. Most of the other items are quite tolerant of minor surges.
I have encountered low voltage (103 or less) at least once a year. And a bad ground this year. I can replace the stuff but I cannot get my vacation time refunded or reset if I have to head home early because I am stuck in a hot box.

RE: New flat panel TV

LCD does not have water in it. The material has liquid like properties at operating temperature but is actually a solid.
Chemical structure is N-(4-Methoxybenzylidene)-4-butylaniline (MBBA) molecule

RE: First time buyer. Tell me why I should buy a fifth wheel!

Watch the pin weight on the fifth wheel. My Springdale dry pin is 880 and probably 1250 loaded. You may have the tow package but you do not have the max payload package because it is a Supercrew. Make sure you know your payload rating and anything more than a 150# driver and tank of fuel counts as payload.

RE: house battery for coach

IMO people that spend the extra for Trojans tend to baby them, charge them properly, and keep them watered. With better and consistant maintenance I believe the U2200, Costco, Sams will last 90% as long for half the price.
Accidently let them low on water or leave them discharged and it is just as easy to wreck the T105 as the lower cost brands.
Four years on my Costco GC2 batteries and they are just fine. Time will tell.

RE: 50 Amp Coach on 15 Amp Circuit

Get an inverter to run what you like. Then keep the battery charged with a separate 40 to 60 amp (@12v) charger. Otherwise you need to run what you can on propane and minimally use anything else.

RE: 50 amp R/V outlet from 220 volt service?

Even if the 240v circuit only has 30 amps and #10 wire you will still be able to get 7200 watts and would be plenty of power 95% of the time.

RE: 50 amp R/V outlet from 220 volt service?

Can I tap into the 220 and get 50 amp 110 out of it?
If it has a full size neutral wire and ground connection then you can change the connector to a NEMA 14-50R and plug right in. Standard 50 amp is 240/120 service. By the text of your question I believe you may not fully understand the wiring.

RE: Battery Warmer - Alternate Ideas?

Hi smkettner,
And I keep hoping you will do it! (so that I can imitate it!)
How about some tubes that could act as an "air radiator". I.E. run the furnace exhaust through tubes on the side of the battery compartment?
I suppose the same thing could be done with a generator exhaust?
I'd worry about back pressure on any such extension.
I have always wanted to use the furnace exhaust to heat the battery compartment.
I think it could easily be done if it was part of the original design of the RV. First of all the furnace exhaust needs to be close to the battery compartment. Then just run the exhaust tube through one lower side of the battery compartment. Maybe even an S loop in the pipe to gain surface area. Back pressure should not be an issue as I believe it is forced circulation not convection.

RE: Battery Warmer - Alternate Ideas?

When using cordlees tools the batteries get very warm as they are dicharging . It would seem the batteries would cool only if not being used , no power in and no power out.
I found in my search NiCad is opposite. Exothermic on discharge and Enothermic when charging. Batteries of other chemistry are all different. Rather interesting.

RE: Another Battery Question

For cranking amps consider a Sears Platinum unless you need an 8D.

Forget 4.10 you need 4.30/4.56/4.88 to make the torque you need to move on down the road.
