RE: Targhee National Forest

If you aren't dead set on the Targhee NF, you might want to give this area a look see Grand Teton NP South Entrance to Yellowstone
You can find more near Yellowstone by going heretoo

RE: Tucson Area Boondocking

I know of three boondocking areas at Tucson. One is on the northeast side, one on the northwest, and the other on the southwest side.
BLM southwest of tucson
Santa Catalina Mountains Boondocking
BLM NW of Tucson
There are also multiple casinos and truck stops that allow over-nighting in the area, if that is your kind of thing.

RE: Quartzsite in the rain?

We pulled out of Scadden Wash yesterday morning and headed west. We decided to get provisions in Blythe. I was doing laundry there while the "tornado" went over. My other half was sitting in the camper outside. It was a bit unnerving for the both of us. Rocking and rolling in Blythe

You might also try posting in the City-Data.com Vero Beach forum

RE: Quartzsite in the rain?

We got set up in Scaddan Wash area just before it let loose. Not a perfect site, but we wanted to get snug before the storm. Man it's busy here. I think the entire Q area is more crowded than last year.
We are also in Scadden Wash. Quite the ominous name given the Flash Flood Watch advisory posted by the NWS.
We might try to seek out higher ground today. Though, as a Q neophyte, I am not sure where that might be.

There are lots of possibilities. Tell us where you would like to be and maybe we can help narrow it down.

RE: What about the amazon in Kentucky???

Oops. I hope I didn't cause any confusion.
I was only talking about the Lexington fulfillment center. The Express folks that are handling the Campbellsville location seem to very work camper centric.
Is anyone going there?

RE: What about the amazon in Kentucky???

The same company that handling Nevada is doing Kentucky. They are actively hiring for their Lexington location there. They are hiring for other locations, too. Please bare in mind that they don't treat work campers any different from anyone else. They will not guarantee you a job before you interview in person and do not pay for nor reserve campsites.

RE: Amazon - Fernley, NV

The ad is on workamper.com. The recruiter is a featured employer.
If two of you are working nights, its just like working in KS or better depending on where you stay.
----------------------------------Days-----Nights
Kansas......................$10.50...$11.00
Nevada......................$11.25...$12.25
Difference....................$0.75.....$1.25
x40hrsx4weeks........$120.00..$200.00
2people...................$240.00..$400.00
That's before overtime. Which is
---------------Days---Nights
Kansas...$15.75 $16.50
Nevada...$16.88 $18.38
I haven't worked for Amazon before, so I have no idea as to how much overtime to expect. For my spreadsheets, I have been estimating 15hrs each in the last two weeks before Christmas.
Also, there's no state income tax in Nevada, but there is in Kansas. Not that it matter much, because you probably won't have to pay on such a small amount anyway. Especially if you are both over 65, as your standard deduction is $8000.
I am not trying to get anyone to come to fernley.. just posting info.
Cheers,
jenn

RE: Anyone have info on Xmas Tree Lot

Who did you work for tandkj? Was it that place in Washington that says they will give you 15%. I wanted to do pumpkins and trees this year, but the ones that pay decently already had help or just never responded.

RE: Amazon - Fernley, NV

Yes. I believe its $11.75/hr for days and $12.25/hr for nights.
Two of the campgrounds charge $350 + electric. One is $375 w/elec included. Another is $400 elect/cable included. The other two do weekly rates only.
I am at the $400 because I have a truck camper and the $350 ones wouldn't let me drop it (even though its brand new) so that I could use my truck. Its OK, I would rather have a static change than possibly a $150 electric bill.

RE: Amazon - Fernley, NV

That's a great way to look at it but Amazon isn't doing the hiring, nor communicating with the potential employees. The people that are treat work campers the same as everyone else. No exceptions.
There are about 6 campgrounds in Fernley/Wadsworth. There are more in Reno and Fallon.

RE: Website with free campgrounds

You may want to check out your contributors, a little more, the site listed as "Park & Ride" in Williamsburg, Va. is NOT a boondocking spot, and is clearly signed, NO Overnight Parking. You may get away with it, or you may be run out in the middle of the night.
Bukhrn,
Thanks for pointing this out. I'm afraid we can't physically check every site and still have the information available in a timely manner. As a compromise, we allow people to post comments on the individual sites in order to more fully inform other users. In the future, if you have commentary on a site, we'd appreciate it if you could leave a comment on the individual post as we are unable to follow all of the RV related message boards as fully as one might hope.
I see you are located in Virginia. Perhaps you could review some of the other sites listed there?

RE: Website with free campgrounds

Hi!
We're glad you're enjoying freecampsites.net. It launched around Christmas a few months ago and we've had a great response from the RV community. We've been lucky to have a couple of great contributors that have helped make the site what it is and we hope the community as a whole will be contributing many more sites in the future. I know there are a lot of great boondocking sites out there and we'll never have all of them, but it's nice to be able to find a spot along the way without too much work.
If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please feel free to drop us a line on the freecampsites forum. I'm afraid we can't really follow all of the RV forums as well as we can watch our own forum.
FiveOJoe, I would particularly suggest that you ask your rest stop question there. I do not know the definitive answer, but one of our more active contributors lives in that area and may be able to give you a good answer.
Thanks again for the great feedback. It's nice to know when we're doing something right (or even wrong!).
