RE: Hitches 101

For the rig you have in your sig, Id have a 20K or 22K hitch. I dont know that a 30K is necessary without knowing the weight of your rig.
Auto or manual slider? Auto sliders there are only 2 Im aware of: Pullrite and Hijacker.
Rails in-bed or below-bed? This applies to most - whether your bed is flat when the rails are removed or the rails remain.
The rest is pretty much just whos you want to buy.
Here is some information and several online stores for price evaluation.

RE: GVWR ??????

I always think of the GVWR as the vertical (hauling) weight limit and the GCVWR as the horizontal (towing) weight limit. As stated above the GVWR is the 4 (or 6) wheels of the tow vehicle on scales. GCVWR is truck and trailer.
Throw your numbers in here:

RE: Slider Problems

I should have reworded my previous post to read "anywhere from level to slight uphill for moving forward - tow position or level to slight downhill for moving moving the hitch to the maneuver position". The only reason for this is to avoid the trailer sliding from gravity unexpectedly. You can use the manual operator to hold the trailer, but that takes 2 people - one to hold the brakes and one to move the lever.

RE: Slider Problems

While connected is correct. You are doing it right, but you have to be sure you park uphill if moving it forward (to tow) and downhill if moving back (to maneuver). This will release any pressure on the pins that hold the slides in the rails.
Here is a diagram of the slide and you can see the idea of the springs inside the legs and how the pins work. They are gray in the pic.
You can see the springs (bow like leaf springs) that provide pressure on the pins for locking. These springs should be lubed also - not easy but if you roll the hitch forward in the truck bed off of the rails, you can see inside - use an oil gun or spray lube - either will work fine.
Look here for figure 12. The profile of the hitch leg.

RE: ONE OF THE STUPID QUESTIONS I HAVE

You cant always get level (example). This is Oak Hollow in NC. Also the #5 spot in Pipestem, WV - same situation. The legs only adjust just so far and thats it. It doesnt matter how many blocks or if you dig holes - once they make contact you only have the adjustment left.
Newer 5th wheels seem to have more adjustment.

RE: Another Myrtle Beach & Dogs Question-The Heat

Thanks, Terry. It does look like you have a better chance avoiding the sun at MBTP than Ocean Lakes. They park 90º to the right following the sun - only makes it worse.
Lori - go and have a great time!

RE: Another Myrtle Beach & Dogs Question-The Heat

We have been to Myrtle Beach several times and it doesnt seem too hot ever. Get them shaved as you indicated, keep lots of water available and you should have a great time.
Not familiar with Myrtle Beach Travel Park (our stays were Ocean Lakes and a Condo once) but based on the website, afternoon sun will be the worst. If you dont yet have an assigned site and they are pull-thru you might want to look for one pointing NW - it might provide a bit more shade in the afternoon. There is almost always a breeze.

You might consider a small box or oscillating fan for your dogs. Lots to do around Myrtle Beach area.

RE: San Antonio Questions

The River Walk is awesome and a great place to enjoy an outside lunch. The Alamo - Davy Crockett's place is cool but suprising small and a bit disappointing...but still the Alamo. On the old tv shows it always seemed bigger.
Groups usually have lunch on the barges that float the river. Might be a bit cool at this time of the year...not sure.
I thought they were building or have an Amphi-theatre at the end of the river walk.

RE: Flash Drive Help

Whoa. Before you spend any money Id take it to a local PC repair shop. Take you flash-drive and ask them if they can verify if there is anything on it. They can quickly check. If its blank you lost your data.
I dont think there is anything you can do to recover files on a flash drive. I may be wrong, but dont be on guard.
Then worry about whether your Windows O/S is working correctly or not.

RE: Looking for ArmySFCRet

Not a good idea posting you full complete and proper email address on a forum.
You should at least help yourself by using something like:
rjvincen (at) msn.com
People should know what to do with this. Just for security and to protect your email address from unnecessary spam.

RE: fifth wheel length

I think the intent of most mfgs was to have the length incorporated into the Model number which usually indicates the floor plan as well. Not sure how much this is true anymore.
Our 30' RKFS SunnyBrook was 31' 3" from the front of the nosecap to the rear of the rearcap.
Open Range takes a different approach altogether. Their model numbers are square footage and have nothing to do with length.

RE: YOSEMITE, AGAIN

I dont know how it is today, but way, way back...they offered a shuttle thru the Yosemite Valley area. The shuttle was allowed where they wouldnt allow other vehicles and you could see and learn more from that in 2 hours than all the other activities.
Maybe someone more current can fill in ...

RE: Truck info 101

A 250/2500 is a 3/4 ton truck. A 350/3500 is a 1 ton truck.
As you add options (any weight) to the TV, the remaining for towing/hauling decreases.
A short bed leaves more than a long bed. A King cab leaves more than a Crew cab. etc, etc.
I personally would only have a dlesel and automatic - 3.73 rear end is fine. 4X4 is a luxury but nice to have.

RE: Sewer hose

Here is a related thread. Get a good hose (or 2) and fittings like this. This gives you the ability to add a extension just like a home garden hose by the bayonet/quick-connect fittings for all fittings.
For storage you can connect the ends together with the bayonet fittings.
On any equal products, Walmart will beat almost every price out there. You may need to get some of the fittings (the large 'L' output end) at an RV store, but I believe the rest is Walmart. The 'L' was about $13.00 at Camping World.
Then get yourself a tote-bub sized for carrying and storage of these parts - also from Walmart.

RE: Brake Controller question

When you press the brakes can you see any light turn on that would indicate the brake controller has received a signal to operate? You may need to drive it to make this determination. If the boost is set to 2-3 you should feel that too for 2 seconds then the boost shuts off.
The Prodigy requires a turn on signal from the brake pedal/brake light switch and it seems like that is missing.
