I have no doubt that it did and still does sound simple to you, but that does not make it so.

It was the proponents of "drill baby drill" who made it sound so simple.

I guess that next time they propose "drill baby drill" that we should view it with some scepticism, eh?

There is much much more then this that warrants skepticism in these times.
But is does give us things to kick around, although to little avail.

Be happy in what we have now.

Whoopee! Regular gas dropped a whole 4 cents a gallon. Down to $2.45 in town. Sure to be 5-10 cents a gallon cheaper a few miles away.

Here in New York we've been between 2.70 and 2.80 for a couple of months. But I'm sure that the reason we pay more is because we're getting better gas than everyone else.

I use this Bloomberg Website to track the cost of oil and gasoline. I found, for me, it was a useful barometer that gave me a 2 or 3 day window to either buy or put off buying gasoline. There is a Bloomberg application available for the iPhone too.

I also got curious and started looking into the different petroleum market indicaters. I found that the WTI Cushing Spot market is actually a depot in Cushing Oklahoma and it's becomes a price point since so much oil is stored there. You can see the storage tanks mostly to the SE of town. WTI is an acronym for West Texas Intermediate.

The good news is my last fillup on October 4 was $2.05 for regular.

Wow! Gas has risen from $2.42 to $2.65 in the past 10 days. So who is driving the price of oil up now. Gee, I suppose because the heating season is beginning, ya think....

Ours is not to reason why, but rather just PAY IT!
It's a wonder that the oil companies stay in business, only making 3% or 4% or what ever was quoted last. Poor guys are starving. Lets snd them some food stamps.
Last week I swear it was $2.23 and now $2.37?
