There are a couple of issues- air flow being the main issue, but mounting is also an issue.
The regular MaxxAir covers work fine as long as you don't want to run the vent on high- I would also mount it with as much of a gap at the bottom as is possible, and remove the screen. 90% of the time, this will be just fine, but if you need a lot of air moving, you just will not get it.
Mounting is also a problem, though it can be overcome.
All of that said- if you want the best performance out of the Fantastic, and want a cover, the one you have pictured is the only way.

Well....I didn't know that maxair made a fan?
I did read that the Maxxair 11 should not be used over a fan.
Boy buying and adding RV parts to your MH sux, there darn websites don't explain anything clearly or so you can compare.
I ordered the fantastic fan, with a maxxair cover like pictured(only thing dealership ordered the one without the screen.) AND claims it comes with a lid, the site clearly says it does not.
I guess I better be there 'before' he throws my lid in the trash.
What I wanted and what will be hopefully installed Monday is a fantastic fan up front, leave the middle vent alone and on the back vent a maxxair2.
What I REALLY want is to put the Maxxair2 over the fan. Don't understand why it can't be done? I personally don't like the looks or aerodynamics of the one I pictured.

I do and have not used vent cover with FF. When we had the basement AC I just turned to fan on to move the air in the MH same with the Aspect we have now. Works the same as the fan on your home furnace.
No need for vents to be open.

I have the Fan Mate 800, like the one you pictured, over both of my Fantastic fans. The fans work fine on any speed and have been doing so since 2004. They get almost continous use when we are in Florida for three months during the winter. No problems with air flow, no rain gets in the trailer, and I keep the vents open 24/7 all year long.
I think that the Fantastic Fan companies objection to the covers was for the older regular ones that were much smaller and had a much smaller opening with a gauze like covering over the opening. That would reduce the air flow a lot (I think they said 60%). The newer Fan Mate covers were developed to work on the high volumn fans such as the Fantastic and their own MaxxAir fans.
We had a MaxxAir Turbo Maxx on our last trailer and it was much better than the Fantastic Fans we have now. It was just as efficient but much quieter. Wish I had kept it when I traded it for our present trailer.

that's what I keep telling people here, but they just won't listen.
not to mention that you can run them in the rain, don't need an automatic open/shut jobby that always goes bad, etc.

I just purchased 2 of the MaxAir 900 in black and when I tried to install them, the fantastic fan vent cover would hit in the fully open position and not open completely. I didn't install them. I felt like since the fantastic fans are on automatic thermostats, they really needed to open completely.

The Fantasic Fan will work with the cover that you pictured. Ours works fine.

The "regular" Maxx-Air VENT covers are for covering VENTS (as in no fan).
The model you show is a FAN cover designed to cover FANS. I have one and it works fine. Yes, the fan cover doesn't open completely but that is explained in the directions and affects nothing.
The Fantastic Fan warning is to not put a VENT cover on top of their fans. FAN covers a designed for this task as they allow the extra flow.
Yes, there will be some reduction in air flow by putting a cover on, but when it is hot, sticky, and pouring rain, reduced air flow is much better then NONE AT ALL if you don't have any cover.

If anyone is interested, I have a lightly used model 900 like the one pictured for sale (only in black). It made the toilet area too dark, so we went with a white one. $65 shipped. rmpsocal@ca.rr.com

I'm confused, abused and plum tired trying to GET IT RIGHT the first time with these.
After reading all your posts I'm leaning towards canceling my original order and have them order the Tubo/Maxx.
PLEASE, Correct me if I'm wrong here, my appt is for tomorrow!
Turbo/Maxx has: a thermostat, reverse fan, 3 speeds.
QUIETER than the FF, right?
I'm 'all about' quiet mechanical things in my MH.
It goes over your existing vent with an add on control module.
Picture not clear,
Does it have a screen over the fan?
Do they have to drill holes in frame inside to mount module?

This one right?
Thanks for any help here, so I get it right the first time.
