15-20%..Naa But the ones that are7%-10% for more than a couple miles can tear up a vehicle thats not in good shape-7% is a pretty steep grade after the 1st mile or so.The thing about Alaska is that they go around as many of the mountains as they can-The lower 48 have roads that go up most of the mountains and over them.In Alaska you have to hike to get to the top of most of them. Best Advice..Turn on the heater on High-roll down the windows for comfort-Don't ride the brakes down-use 2nd or 3rd gear and GO SLOW.If you are still runnin alittle hot-Pop the hood latch and check it to make sure its caught good on the second latch and close it goin down.Wish someone woulda told me when we went last summer.They told us after it overheated.Next time I'll take a diesel.

The Bamfield road, while 2 hrs of gravel, is not narrow, and doesn't have any significant climbs or drops, nor any shelf road sections that I recall. Plus last summer the premier was promising pavement - eventually

Going over mountains maybe Ok in the east!

The only 2 hills we noticed in Alaska this Summer were the Thompson Pass leaving Valdez and the White Pass leaving Skagway. Except for the Top of the World Highway, we did stay on the paved roads. Didn't "notice" any on the Alcan. You'll be preoccupied with the scenery anyway. And we have a 5.4L in a F-250 hauling a 9.5" truck camper.

In 2004 I towed my new 38 foot 5th wheel with my new dodge diesel dually to Alaska from Georgia.
The worst downhill we experienced was the 13 mile hill into Skagway. Going downhill I tried to use the auto trans. to keep the speed down with just enough braking to not overheat the brakes. By the time we were at the bottom our auto transmission was overheated and I limped into Skagway. !/2 hour later it was ok.
Coming back (uphill) was quite a pull but the trans. held up.
When we got home I had a heavy duty DTT trans. installed for $5,000 bucks. Think I'm ready to tackle that hill now.
