My rig is such that it does not overhang the front of the bed so CO is not a concern of mine. If it was, I'd consider disconnecting for the evening and pulling the truck forward just a bit (or move it to the rear of the unit).

When staying in one place for a while I will also move it to the ground at the rear of the trailer, chain to the bumper.

What is 'cobra lock'?

"My first question is about running the Gen's in the pickup bed which is right below the 5'er bedroom. I'm concerned about carbon monoxide from the gen's getting into the bedroom. I do have a CO2 detector, but I'm still concerned"
Well the general consensus on generator use is - DO NOT run them all night!!
Why would you run it while sleeping?

Agreed - AC.

I run mine all night if we're boondocking and we want AC. I put nearly 100 hours on our genny this summer, a good majority of which was overnight runs.

I run ours right in the bed of the truck and use a 30A extension to reach the trailer. Never once had any problem with carbon monoxide or even exhaust fumes, for that matter. I can't possibly imagine that it would be a concern since the area between the trailer and truck bed/generator is quite wide open - lots of airflow to take the exhaust away. We keep the bedroom windows and vents closed when it's running, but I opened them once out of curiosity from a noise perspective and even then I didn't detect any exhaust fume smell.

When running it's pretty much right below our heads while in bed, but it never stops us from sleeping. I've placed the generator on a mix of rubber and foam mats that isolates it really well from a vibration perspective, and the exhaust and running noise is dampened pretty well by the fiver itself. Yeah, we can hear it, but it's steady and rythmic and once you get used to a bit of background noise we sleep just fine....certainly a lot better then we would if we were sweltering in the heat without the AC on.

... Yes, A/C all night. A Cobra lock is a brand name for a side locking cable, ... supposedly high tensile strength, etc. got it at Home Depot.
I'm encourged that other RV'ers run their gen's below the bedroom. Still kind of scary for me though being Co2 is oderless and colorless. I read somewhere factory installed gen's are located in the front compartment of the 5th wheel. If so, I'm wondering where their exhaust is dumped? Bottom line for me, ... if most run rv'ers their gen's in the P/U bed, under the bedroom, then it will be okay for me. An option, as mentioned in this thread, is to disconnect the P/U
and pull ahead a little.

Thanks, pb

I'm in the process of having 3 each 2.25" receiver tubes welded to the frame under the rear of the FW, I've seen plenty of cargo carriers on other vehicles that don't seem to be too steady, a lot kind of move back and forth- Bought a 22 x 60" cargo carrier from TSC, and will add 2 more 2x2 receiver inserts to make a total of 3. I'll post pictures when finished-
