I just got a Brinkman Smoke N Grill, also known as El Cheapo Brinkman (ECB), this past week. I just finished making most of the modifications "necessary" to make it a better smoker. So far I have about $35 into this very portable smoker.

And look forward to doing my first smoke next week. If it goes well, I'll be taking it for the Thanksgiving camping trip. I was posting to see if smoking at a campsite is common or not, didn't want to offend everyone.

I bring my Traeger pellet smoker everytime we go camping. It fits in the compartment under the fifth wheel. We smoke pork butts, ribs, chicken, just about everything.

When I moved to Wisconsin I was surprised to see these Traeger smokers out here. They are made in Silverton, Oregon by the Traeger family.

I won my Traeger in a drawing at Papa Murphy's this summer and about the only thing I haven't tried was a turkey and that's coming weekend after next, smoked thick cut pork chops, brined, this weekend .. The only thing that didn't work out was the Beer Can Chicken and it just didn't seem to want to cook. If I can figger out how to fasten it to the pull-out bike rack on the back of my Cougar TT,it's gonna be going too... (it doesnt fit in the back of the Excursion too well.)

Bigdog,
Do your have an oven thermometer? I always use one in addition to the gauge on the lid of my Brinkman S&G. Lower temps = longer cooking times. I have yet to have a bad or undercooked Beer Can Chicken.

Yes,I have a thermometer.I used both that to monitor the grll temp and an instant to check the chicken..I think that mebbee it wasn't bled out well enuff.I was trying to be fancy and got one of those scrawney free-range organic things from the local farmers market.. That's probably where I went wrong. Should have stayed with one of those chickens that never see the light of day,are fed rice, vitamins and preservatives till they bloat and then travel 3K miles to Washington. They taste the best..
Craig,I love my Traeger...It may be expensive, but it's ready to go in 10 minutes and it's a smoker,BBQ and griller. It is electric with wood pellets for heat and heat and has settings for smoker,180-225,BBQ,300, and grilling,400-450,.The pellets are all kinds of wood, you don't use regular heating pellets, and you can mix different woods if you want.
Go to www.traegergrills.com

Hey,fla-gypsy...If it's not a state secret,or a family one that can't be passed on on penalty of death, cfould you post the recipe for your stuffed sausages....Please,please,PRETTY PLEASE??????

I like the LP type, makes maintaining the temp easy.
