With the recent election defeat, of the senior US Senator in Alaska, what are the perceived implications to the state of those that live there, have lived there or enjoy visiting Alaska? IMHO, seldom has one person, so dominated a state's politics as has Uncle Ted, has done in Alaska for the last 40 years or so. What, if any effect will this have on those of us that like to RV/camp in the state?
Since I still do some consulting work in Alaska, I am guessing that some of my clients are going to be asking questions. Hopefully they will be willing to "pay" for that advice. LOL
I have started working on this subject and have put my first rough draft on my web page, titled Alaska - The Future.
Some night when you can't get to sleep, this might be good reading for you. (half way through and out like a rock)
Thoughts, comments of others are encouraged and if we keep them non-political, perhaps the moderators will allow us to discuss this Alaska issue.

I want to leave this earth quietly in my sleep like my grandfather and not like the hysterical, screaming passengers riding in granddad's RV just before the big crash.

If it is about politics, you KNOW what is going to happen to it. But reading about Alaska in any other vein will survive I think

I would think that Alaskans - or at least many of them - are as aware of the importance of tourism to their state as Sen. Stevens may have been. I think Alaska will do just fine, at least once the economy (or at least consumer confidence)has started to recover.

In very recent years it appears the Governor has had more direct positive impact upon Alaska than Senators.
Perhaps that trend will continue to the benefit of tourism and RV'ers.

Alaska is bigger than any other state and it's draw is bigger than any one person, including politicians. The Great Land will prosper with or without the long-time senator.

I don't think the Politics will have nor should it have any effect on any tourism.
If you want to go you will, period.

With less clout in the Senate, and a governor who is on record against 'bridges to no where', tourists will be expected to bring their own salt pork.

During the campaign I took to browsing news sources such as the Anchorage Daily News and the Alaska Dispatch. I even found newspapers from small towns such as Bethel.

Kind of makes me glad I live in Indiana. Dan Quail became VP. He's from Indiana. No impact to Indiana, for or against. Kind of went by unnoticed! Maybe the same thing will happen in Alaska!
