We buy the truck that best serves our Towing needs. I don't care what badge it has on it. The last two have been Fords. The one before that a Chevy. If there is a next one I have no idea what it will be. They were all good trucks and served us well.

My wife's brother's sister-in-law's mother's uncle's father's son-in-law's son is a diesel mechanic and said buy a Dodge. Since I didn't know him I bought a Ford.

UGH - you guys are not making this easy for me. This whole ordeal is almost funny - and almost like a Chevy Chase movie, (such as National Lampoon's vacations). I mean, how many trucks fall off of the carrier? Yes, that is what happened. When they were loading our truck onto the carrier they did not engage it properly, so it rolled all the way down, and fell off. The front bumper is smashed and from the back crew cab door all the way down to the end of the truck is sideswiped. I almost feel it is an omen for us not to get a Ford. My mom passed away recently - maybe this is her way of telling us not to get a Ford?
All of this aside, it is pretty slim pickings for a 2008 of what we would like. There are a lot of short beds out there. If I do get a short bed will it work ok with a slider hitch? It would be a bit more practical for me since I will also be using this truck for everyday shopping and such. I really do not want to get a dual tires since it will be used around town. GMC said I can go with a 250 since it has a tow of 13,000. Our camper is 9,000 with a 1500 hitch weight.

I have a Silverado 2500HD short box and have no problems at all pulling my 5th wheel. I have a Hijacker sliding hitch. Its a great combination.

Certainly you didn't blindly decide on a Ford in the first place. I assume you looked around, drove, priced before making your decision. I wouldn't let people's opinions change my mind, no matter what brand/model I picked. Good luck!!

Go out this weekend drive all 3,choose which one you like the best and which dealer gives you the best deal.Any Ford, Chevy or Dodge diesels will do the trick. I've always been bias to Chevy's, however when I was ready for a new truck I looked at all 3, Dodge dealership gave me the best deal, and I liked the truck so I got it, and no regrets. If your sold on Ford get a Ford, dont take the word of some mechanic who knows so much about diesels but yet is working on RV's.

While I'm really pleased with my Dodge, if I had my druthers (and I seldom do) I'd go for a Cummins/Allison combination stuffed in a Ford body. Yeah, like that's gonna happen!!

Don't know what size/weight fiver you have, but the truck in my sig effortlessly hauls my 9600# fiver with 400# of payload left and 6000# of towing capacity to spare. And yes, it's a short box with a slider hitch.

what it really comes down to is your preference in a vehicle. i prefer ford, others prefer something else. for me, chebby is too much like a car, dodge is just too plain. if i could get the cummins in a ford truck, that would be the perfect tow vehicle in my opinion.
any of the big 3 will do a fine job for you.
