I've lost the ballast in one of the 8 Liteco OEM dual tube fluorescent (F15T8CW) ceiling lights. I haven't been able to find the the ballast or fixture on line.

I could just order it from Tiffin, but the bulbs seem have a short to life since we buy 10 or more per year as fulltimers.

I'm toying with replacing the bulbs in the fixture with these as a alternative.

So I put forth the questions:
Has anyone tried the following LED 12v light strips for ceiling lighting? Would two of these strips be as bright?

Many here have purchaced from them, myself included. Until recently, I have found the LED devices unsatisfactory. The SMD Leds are a vast improvement over earlier ones.

I recently ordered some Led replacement bulbs for my lights to try. I ordered 2 and will try; if they work as well as I have heard, I'll order replacments for all.

I'd order 1 and try it! You'd save a little shipping ordering 2 at once, but maybe 1 would be enough.

Let everybody here know how they work if you do get them.

Doug

I haven't tried those but have used other LED lighting products. I have never seen one that is suitable for general lighting but the technology is improving. Those might do the job but my advice is to try one before committing to the idea. Aside from the brightness question LED light is not like any other in color and you might not like it.

My experiments with LED lights in the TT have been unsatisfactory. Color is bad, and illumination level is low. Follow the above ideas of trying it slowly, and only get one or two.

An article in MH magazine a few months back had shown direct replacement LED for your flourescent tubes. I bought a twin pack to try them. Lighting is a "bluish" hue but fairly bright. They are brighter than the tubes but still would not want to read with them alone. I don't think I would put them in all of my overhead lights but we do use them alot when boondocking. You can check them out at Jirah Company and go down page to the JC-18-FL product.

If you can not find a ballast you might just try getting a Thin-Light fixture that uses the same bulb, you may need to fabricate a mounting bracket for the ballast but the sockets should snap in and out, and everything else should work well.

Just replace all the 'Guts' and use a stick on label to note the changes made.

I found a Thin-Light ballast for two F15T8s online at one of the "solar" companies for $21.

I sent an e-mail to them last weekend asking for the dimensions of the ballast to see if it would fit in the shroud that makes up the reflector of my light fixture. After a week I have received no reply.

I ordered the thin lite ballasts and they mounted in my liteco fixture easily, however, for whatever reasons, the ballast only lasted a few months then burnt out...I just ordered 2 new thin lite fixtures and replaced the old liteco fixture...
