We think we would like to work for one of the major/large concessionaires in a national or state park. We would like to be where it's warm in the winter and cool in the summer. We have looked at web sites, no details are given. Not knowing any details, we are looking for information from all you great people on this forum. Two of the first questions are how many hours can you expect and the rate of pay. Then any and all information that you might have

We're currently working for American Land and Leisure in the Ocala National Forest. They provide FHU site and state minimum wage for all hours worked. They even do direct deposit!

We worked for a major concessionnaire in Yellowstone NP for 3 summers, and for 2 smaller privately owned companys near Glacier NP for 3 seasons and are returning this summer. We have always worked 40 hrs/week (both of us) or close to that, same schedules and same 2 days off for both of us. We have been paid from $5.75 to $8.50/ hr. and have had an RV site provided at a cost of $30-35 per week. So we clear about $500/week(no benefits though) We tried one other retailer for 3 weeks which was a horrible place to work and a disaster but we have no regrets about the other 6 seasons. They have always been intersesting, sometimes fun, sometimes very tiring but a great way for retirees to supplement their income and live in great places temporarily. As far as working for the large companies, it kind of all boils down to the immediate supervisors and co-workers. Go for it.

I have also worked at Yellowstone and Denali and they are okay. The pay is okay but nothing great however at the end of season you can get a lot of overtime and make some money due to all the college kids leaving.

We've hosted 3 different campgrounds ( Washington State)and were city park caretakers ( Oregon ) for one summer. I'm assuming you know about Workamper News. A magazine posting jobs state by state. Hours vary from 20 hours a week to 40 hours per person. Last year we were both paid 30 hours each. Most of the time you are paid whatever minimum wage is for the area. You'll find yourself putting more hours in than your paid for if you count B.S. sessions with the campers, late night complaints, jumping dead batteries, and in general being on call 24 hours a day on the weekends when your campground is busy because your the only ones there. We're in a National Forest this year in Washington State. PM if your going to be in this area they're still trying to fill a position here. We like it and as already stated it really does boil down to your supervisor and co-workers as to how much fun your going to have. Good luck

The warmest place to winter would be in Everglades National Park, but the vendors for services in this park cold be hard to find. The hotel/resort in the Flamingo area has been closed since the last hurricane because they have not been able to find any company to take it over. There are tour boat and tram contractors who have some jobs, but most of those are taken by locals.

We have worked for American Land and Leisure for the past 6 seasons. They have a lot of the consessions for the FS out west and a few midwest and east coast; as mentioned by HappyKayakers. Most of their campgrounds are summer only. They do NOT charge you for your site. Check out their website: www.americanll.com
