It would have been a lot less boring if one of the mines they were probing for had been the real McCoy. No ADD would have been in evidence.

Julie,

Great mom minds think alike. We also tackled cleaning Matt's room & closet. My help was his girlfriend, needless to say after a few hrs work, she declared that when he got home he'd better keep that room & closet clean or else (he also had a pile of clothes that didn't fit - must be a boy thing to just keep them).

My hubby builds custom furniture as a hobby (he's done most of the furniture in our house). He decided that Matt should come home to an adult room, so he's been busy, painting, cleaning carpets and building a whole new bedroom set. Won't Matt be surprised when he gets home in Nov? He has no idea we've been such busy bees. He thinks he's coming home to the same room he left.

Just our little way of saying thanks for working soo hard at Basic & AIT.

If you read my signature, it says Live, Love, Laugh and shovel out the rest. The first part of the saying has been my "thing" for almost 50 years. Then when my son was at his grandparents for the summer (he was 7th grade): I cleaned his room. Told one of my patients that I took a trash can into his room and just shoveled out the mess. She gave me a See's candy gift of a saand pail and shovel with Live, Love, Laugh and shovel out the rest on the tag. It fits and has been my motto ever since.

Hey Aaron. If you like bombs and things. Check into EOD (explosives ordnance disposal). It is a 6 month school in Indian Head Maryland. All branches of the military go there. I believe you get about 30 college credits if you apply for it. It is one of the speciality areas of the military and really neat if you like blowing up things.

My father in law just wrote a book about his experiences in going through Basic, EOD and touring South Viet Nam. Called XUC MAY, (Never Happen) he calls it a rambling of my everyday life while serving in an EOD unit in South Viet Nam.
I was rather surprised that he wrote a book, he just doesn't seem like the type, although he does watch and read anything to do with the Niet Nam war, and is more than willing to talk about what happened and tries to encourage others to share their experiences as well. I know it has taken several years for him to get this written. We just got ours in the mail only yesterday.
He is selling them for something like 20 bucks and all the profits will go to Wounded EOD Warrior Foundation based in Fredericksburg, Va.
He, Gary Pool, has been somewhat thrown back by the response so far, only having ordered 100 initially and already having sold 75 of them.

Keep it up Aaron, and if you can think of a really good convincing way to get my son to do the same, I'm all for it!!

He's HOME! I should have posted this sooner, but I didn't. Sorry!

I haven't posted here in quite a while. Sorry about that! On September 22, 2009, we left to go to Fort Leonard Wood for Aaron's graduation! We drove all the way to St. Louis that first day (500 miles or so) through lots of rain in Rockford, IL (it sucked!), leaving at 6 a.m. and arriving at about 4 p.m. at our campground, 20 minutes north of St. Louis. The next day, we drove to our campground about 10 miles from Ft. Leonard Wood (240 miles or so). Driving through St. Louis with the 5er was an experience, to be sure! My GPS routed us through downtown . . . It could have been worse, and it was much easier than going through the construction in Rockford where it was raining so hard you couldn't see 10 feet in front of you!

Aaron was completely surprised to see my mom. It was GREAT! We were all crying (well, not Aaron!) LOL.

Anyway, here's a video from graduation on Friday, September 25th. This is as all the soldiers are marching into the theatre. I added the words, because some of it is hard to understand. Hope you like it!

Enjoyed the video! Congrats to Aaron. Graduation is awesome isn't it? The sense of pride you feel knowing what your Son has accomplished is just hard to put into words. Wish him the best as he pursues his military career. The pride you feel now will just get stronger. My Son called me this AM from Afghanistan, and everyday I am more proud of him than the day before. It takes a special person to become a Soldier, and everyone of them should be commended.

Julie Remind your son to take pictures whenever he can throughout his career. Get him a camera so he can get shots of his buddies(with names and hometowns) and the places he goes. Years from now those letters you're saving and the pictures will be priceless to him. I wish cameras had been more advanced and easy to carry when I was in the AF.

Pass along my THANKS to Aaron for his service to our country.
