We want to work this winter in a warm spot. We are thinking about trying Death Valley, know nothing about it, so we are looking to the forum for help. Please share you knowledge.

To check weather conditions in the past, try out:

Weather Underground

Plug in the city and state that you are interested in and pick a date in the past. Shows info by date, month, etc. Great tool.

Are you looking for a paid position or a volunteer for site position? I believe that both exist in that park.

From Death Valley everything is far. Closest Wally World would be Pahrump NV. Nothing much in Baker CA and Barstow doesn't have their Super Wally in yet. If you go for grocerys in Barstow hit the Stater Brothers, usually decent prices.

I take it back Baker CA does have the Worlds tallest thermometer. (dang, can't spell)

If you are EVER in Baker Ca admiring the tallest thermometer you have to eat food at the MAD GREEK omg it is good and fattening.

If the plan is so great, why doesn't it sell itself?

Also for shopping don't forget Ridgecrest about 2 hrs away. 3 major grocery stores, Walmart, K-mart etc

Part of the question is dependent upon where in Death Valley you expect to be. The park is more than 100 miles long and 50 miles wide. From Furnace Creek to Pahrump is about 50 miles. Las Vegas or Barstow are closer to 100 miles one way. If you are at Stovepipe wells then the nearest town would be Beatty, NV., a town of about 1200 people. If being close to shopping is important, Death Valley is not the place for you.
