Well, I just traced down a shorted out power converter/charger in my 96 Terry 275J 5er. I don`t have a clue why it shorted out...everything 12 volt seems to work just fine. The unit was a 40 amp unit. I`ve already checked a local trailer supply house and Camping world for replacements. The 45 amp units run anywhere from $200 on up to the sky!! We don`t use our 5er very much, just a couple week long trips each year. Am I going to be shortchanging myself if I go with the cheaper units? We primarily rely on the converter to keep the batteries charged and run just some of the lights. One of the units I`ve looked at is a Progrssive Dynamics Converter/Charger, 45 amp (local supply house). The other is the Inteli Power 4600 series converter/charger, 45 amp (CW). Are either of these units any good? One other question....is the charge wizard of any real value? What does it do specifically? Shouldn`t the converter/charger keep the batteries charged on it own? Thanks for any feedback!!

checkout http://www.bestconverter.com/9200-Series_c_84.html
they list a 45 amp w/charge wizard for $163.50 or a 60 amp for $193.50
both are great prices, and the charge wizard is great to have. no more cooked batteries.

You will find better prices here: http://www.bestconverter.com/
Lowest cost will be a 35 amp WFCO (plenty big) from Bestconverter or possibly a 45 amp Progressive Dynamics off ebay.

The Charge Wizard will monitor battery condition and keep batteries charged without allowing an overcharge. With Charge Wizard I might add water to batteries once a year and rig and converter are plugged into 110v power year around.

I just had to replace the converter on my 1996 HR. I stayed with the same brand so it would be plug and play so to speak. I only had to take out the 4 screws, remove the output wires, unplug it and do the reverse to install the new one. Took all of 5 minutes and I was back up and running on 110 volts. The price was not bad. I went from a PD9160 to a PD9280 for more charging power.

Check out Ebay. There is a fellow that sells not the latest, but 2nd generation WFCO units. They are new & have 3 stage chargers. They also have a pendant feature somewhat like the charge wizard.
I bought a new 40A amp for my TT & paid around $60.00. Didn't have to do any major mods to mount it where my Parallax had been.

Thanks for all the replies and especially the links....I did some research this morning before I left for work (5:30 am) and then I had a little time at work today to order the Progressive Dynamics Intel 9600 series 45 ampo with the charge wizard. $165 shipped. I will have it in plenty of time to install prior to our August get away.
Timing couldn`t have been any worse....I just bought new (used) tires for a tractor, and yesterday I had just committed to buying new tires for my gooseneck trailer. Oh well...it`s only money right?? The money tree out back has no money leaves left on it now!! Again...many thanks.
