This is my favorite. A 1959 Austin Healy 100-6. It had a Ford 4 bbl 351 windsor, lots of engine mods, Ford 9" rear, with 4.11 gears, C-4 auto trans. Just way to much fun for a twenty-two year old. Lots of power, and fast. Eleven twenty street machine in 1971!

That's a lovely car...English sports roadster with a small block Ford V8...sounds like the A.C. Ford Cobra formula.
In addition to the drags i would think it would be a lovely ride on a smooth, winding road. Just be careful over the speed bumps with that low Healey chassis and body.
I have a feeling with those 4.11 gears, 351 Ford Windsor that you could get some nice power drifts in the corners. Am I right ?

Tight fit
I seem to recall a Sprite but the memory fails me. The Sprite 327 was in the San Diego area in the '60's I believe.
1/4 mile was high 11's - low 12's in street configuration - fast for those days
Drove it mostly in San Marino/Pasadena area

Hi Les,
That car could drift just thinking about it. We called it power sliding. My neighborhood was built with dirt roads. Now a drift, or a slide, on dirt, was just the ultimate. Nothing better than steering wheel full right, going left, steering with the gas pedal, and looking over the right door to see where you were going. Wow!

When I was young...say 18 to 40 or so, I used to love steering by throttle. Rear wheel drive cars, of course are the key. Up here where I live are winters are 5.5 to about 6 months long , with snow and ice on the roads.
I would (if no traffic around) slide around the corners, using the gas pedal as additional steering in the snow and ice. FWD and age have cut into my fun. My wife's happier that I drive more sedately now.

I forgot to mention one I had. A 1969 Datsun 2000 Roadster. It cornered Like you wouldn't beleive. Datsun said top end was 120mph. at 130 I was still gaining speed when I had to shut it down.

On edit, I have owned 5 of the dozen listed here by Time Magazine:
The dozen most important cars of all time.
A 1971 Volvo 1800 ES..what a great car...the sport's station wagon..or as it's European..maybe the descriptor..Shooting Brake..goes down easier. The wagon version of the Volvo 1800 Sports Coupe...the kind that Roger Moore in the TV show the Saint used to drive.
I'm a Volvo nut....old Volvo's that is, rather than the new jobs.
Back in 1970-71 while attending U., I had a '62 Volvo PV 544 with the high-performance 1800 cc B18S twin SU carb engine.
The PV544S looked like a 3/4 scale, '46 Ford but that's where the resemblance stops.
It accelerated, braked, handled very well...an early sport sedan.
The PV544S was a popular rally car and competitor in Sports Car racing...which was exceptional in those days for a sports sedan to be competitive against pure sports car of the day.
The mention of your vintage Volvo, Stressor, triggered a nice walk down memory lane for me...I guess my old '62 Volvo PV544S would be one of my top cars.
BTW...the best shifter (smooth, quick, accurate), the easiest clutch with the best 'feel' I've ever had.
I remember a girlfriend at the time..telling me how 'masterful' I was at piloting the Volvo through corners at breakneck speeds, all the time deftly upshifting and downshifting through the corners. BTW...she was an English Lit. major and knew how to appeal to my ego.
