Just finished that route to stewart from Watson lake. Road under construction in 3 places. the worst was at the first from Watson Lake and then one bad stretch for about 8 miles furthur down. all in all very good road as long as you dont speed. We drove about 10 in the construction and 40 the rest of the way. Now in smithers watching the glacier. Did not see any bears at Hyder the word was only about 8 bears around and with the chum so thick they tend to gorge in the evening. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for the input, we are now at Mt. Shadow RV south of the worst of the destruction in the Dease Lake area. I would agree that the road is better than the Tok to Kluane Lake section of the AK highway and the guidance you provided was correct.

The only hair raising part of it was they were adding another layer in one spot, it was raining and the 6"-12" of new gravel in the right lane was running over into the none too generous left lane they had us traveling in. To keep the rear dual out of the very soft shoulder I had to "feel" for the mound and graze it without running up on it for several hundred feet.

Hope the #%$@# bears show up after all that and a filthy RV too.

One way or the other you will drive the Kluane Lake to Tok road which seems to be the worst. It is poor but easily doable if you drive slow and alert. Watch the vehicle in front if you have one and watch the white stripe on the side when one exists. It will help to show you the movement in the road. Don't let people push you on the bad gravel sections.
