I currently own a small TT (18'). I am looking to get a small 5th wheel with NO slide. (I just don't want the hassles of a slide. Every one I've ever dealt with leaked at some point.) I would like a set of bunks and the full or queen in the front without giving up the sofa and dinette. The goal is not to have to set up the sofa or dinette to sleep at night. I would like something light weight and inexpensive. I don't mind the aluminum siding models. My truck is a 2009 Dodge 2500 quadcab short bed with 5.7 and 3.73. I would like to stay as light as possible so as not to struggle with the trailer. I just got rid of an 06 quad cab with the 4.7 and 3.55 which was more than capable of pulling my small trailer, but it struggled over 55mph. I don't want to end up in the same situation with a brand new truck, so I would like to have a lot of wiggle room as far as weight goes. What models of 5vers do you recommend with the above details? Sorry so long.

Good luck on finding a bunk house fiver with NO slide. I haven't seen any at the RV shows or in a CG. They're probably out there, you are going to have to look, though. You might check the online RV sales sites for an older used one OR find one you like with a slide.

To each their own and good luck in finding just the 5'er you are looking for. For what it is worth, you may want to reconsider the slide issue. The extra space they offer can be to much to pass up and you will find a greater selection of models out there.

Yep......... I agree with the others. The most important thing to consider is to buy from a reputable dealer who will stand behind his product. The extra space that a slide provides, outways the risk of a leak in my opinion and a good dealer would take care of any issues if necessary under warranty. I can't recall seeing any fivers while camping without at least one slide but have seen plenty of standard trailers without any....... that may be an option for you to look into.

I agree with Rossey. I also haven't seen any 5'ers without a slide w/bunks. But my DH's cousin just bought a Dutchman Sport 29Q Lite travel trailer with quad bunks, no slide, leftover '08 for $13,000. Their's is extremely light (the website says 4910 lbs.) They have a 1/2 ton they pull it with. here's their floorplan:
Me, my DH, my DD (7) and DS (3)

'04 Ford F-350 crew cab 6.0L PowerStroke diesel "the haulin hawg"

If you really don't want a slide and don't mind aluminum siding, I'd suggest you look at older used models. A new 5er without a slideout isn't going to be worth much at trade-in time, so just get an old one now and you won't need/expect much when you trade it.
We only have a tiny slideout in ours, but even it makes the camper seem much roomier when it's out.

Definitely go with a slide out model.
As for bunks, they are great. We willl most like ly look for a bunkhouse model so we can have the extra room for company or a sewing room for DW.
The best place to look for newer models and save a lot of money is by getting a used one from a private party. We've never bought from a dealer, never bought new and are always happy with the decision.

Check out the following toyhauler .... no slides, very light weight.
http://www.forestriverinc.com/nd/default22.asp?location=rv&unittype=&page=floorviewertt&model=266FLSRV&choice=wood&nav=rec&name=953&series=XLToy
Looks like the Forest River Wildwood XL Toyhauler somewhat meets the requirements you are looking for (no slide, light weight for a 5th wheel, Electric lift up bunks (in small toyhauler area), queen bed, sofa and dinette fixed areas) As for cheap, RVWholesalers sells it new for about $22.5K so that is not cheap.
