I have a Sony Vio VGN-CR506E laptop, it is a bit over a year old and the battery will only last 30 minutes now. A new battery costs over $120!! Isn't there a cheaper alternative? I need 19.5V.

That's what I do... I carry a small 12V inverter in my laptop case with the a/c cord.

There are the universal types, but it is an additional thing to carry tho...

I checked the Batteries Plus web site for you http://www.batteriesplus.com and .. did not get lucky

you can call them at 1-800-677-8278. and ask an expert

My expierence with Batteries + is this.

I have a Thinkpad R-52 When the battery in it started showing signs of death I priced batteries all over the place.. Batteries + was NOT the lowest price, but... they were very close to it.

PLUS (Not really a pun) the battery they had was an "Extended Run" battery, this is a slightly larger battery (Sticks out the back) with 20% (in my case) more run time than the OEM.. Everybody else had OEM, so in fact the battery was less expensive.

Brand was Ray-O-Vac (I think there is a relationship between Ray-o-vac and B+)

PLUS (Agan it's not a pun) Batteries + has a bunch of birck and mottar stores.. There is one in Burton, Mi for example (just outside of Flint) and there is one in Farmington Hills, (Just outside of Detroit, I'm John From Detroit, the Farmington hills side of Detroit) so I was able to walk in lay my money down and walk out all in the same day.. Take the laptop with you when you go, make sure the battery fits, and you can re-cycle the old one while you are there.

the bad part of batteries plus is many of their "standard" batteries, while cheaper than others do NOT have the same amp/hr capacity. I was looking for one for an IBM laptop, price of battery was cheaper but only half the amp/hours capacity as the orignal
