. We took our 2003 class A motor home into a local dealer for a problem with our rubber roof. There is a soft spot on the roof right where you get off the ladder. It's not that big and there is also some crunching when you push on the area around it. It feels like the thin wood that they put over the insulation. I know there is a name for it but can't recall it off hand.

Anyway, I thought they could just repair that area but it turns out they tell me they have to replace the entire roof which I find hard to believe but I may be wrong. The price they gave to replace the roof was $ 6,800 dollars. Now that seems very high since we just put a new roof on our house for a little more then $6800.

Has anyone had the same problem and if so did they just get the bad area fixed. We are going to take it to another dealer to get another estaminet.

In my opinion, you are getting 'rip...ed.. off'. I had an issue with mine, I just removed the caulking and trim piece. Pulled back the rubber roof from the bad area, cut out the old luan (very thin plywood) and replaced it, reglued, filled area with expanding foam called 'great-stuff' and put the rubber back down and sealed the seams with eterna-bond. Job done !!

good luck

cheers

My last trailer had a similar problem. I called my roofer and they came and removed the trim, pulled back the rubber and replaced the wood. They then put the rubber and trim back and caulked. All for under $400.My advice- call a roofer.

I agree with all the previous posters. That is a spot repair and there is no need to do the whole roof. The Dealer is trying to take you for a ride and scare you and you should never trust that dealer again IMHO.

Price sounds about right for a full replacement, but, since it's near the edge you should be able to lift the edge up and do it that way as RGar974417 said.

If you were a company that had to stand behind the work that you did, You would probably want to do the job once and only once. Perhaps in their experience in the past the proper way to repair a roof with that damage is to replace the entire roof. No one else here has seen the unit so we cant really say how to fix it right. Once you remove rubber from the wood it will not glue back down as good as it did originally and then you have the opportunity for it to bellow (spelling) while going down the road. Maybe this dealer has experienced this in the past on other repair jobs. I am not trying to start a fight here but every time someone gets a price from a dealer they are on here instanly telling everyone else that they are a rip off.

We had the same roblem at the rear of our fifth wheel and the dealer repairs it by the aforementioned peel-back method. Cost was $1,800 by the dealer. More expensive than Do It Yourself, but not the whole roof. Get another 2 opinions.

I just repaired mine, my leak was a faulty A/C gasket. The leak caused rotted roofing (wood) under the A/C area and toward the rear of the trailer about 1.5 feet back. I cut the ruber roof with a utility knife out from the corners of the A/C unit until I found a seam in the wood roofing. Then I pealled the ruber back, removed the damaged wood, applied glue to the top of the wood, rolled the ruber roof back over the wood, rolled the roof, eternabonded the seams, replaced the A/C gasket. Total cost $150.00, total time aprox 6 hours.
