The discounts are small enough that you need other motivation than the discount alone to justify the purchase of the item - is certainly true for car alarms. The portion of your insurance that amortizes theft rates is small compared to the cost of an alarm....

Not always. I'm a photographer and carry tens of $1000 worth of equipment with me while on jobs. Some equipment insurers INSIST on car alarms or it's not insured against theft.

(For the record, I think it's bunk, but I don't make the rules. I do select the insurance carrier, however.)

Naw, My Tacoma's TPMS has lit up the dashboard twice now. I think its kinda cool. As a built-in equipment it makes all the sense in the world - mostly because it doesn't cost *400 dollars*.

newk - the equipment insurer - not the car insurer. Interesting.

Is $400 a lot of money? Really? I guess if you don't save/budget and impulse buy, maybe. If we decided a TPMS purchase was smart for us (in this case we do), then we put back a little each month until we get it. My point is that if a person thinks a piece of equipment can/will work and if it gives peace of mind, then saving for it isn't such a big deal. With many 10s of thousands of $$ of investment and even the possibility it could save a life, it's a no-brainer (for me). And yes, driving is dangerous; probably the most dangerous thing we do daily, but anything that can minimize that danger is good in my book. I've seen the misery of "It's not going to happen to me."

'cost of installing and maintaining tpms systems in all those insured vehicles'

What cost to maintain? We have had our tire monitor on two 5th wheels and have never had any cost! to maintain.
As far as installing... we screwed the cap monitors on the tire valves. Clipped the monitor to the visor in truck and plugged it in.
It is very easy to use and never any added cost, except for batteries. It has saved us a couple of times from damage and sitting on side of the road or changing a tire.
Once we had a staple in the side of a tire. Alerted us to this so we could take care of it.

Before having the tire monitor, we had 3 flats on another 5th wheel going to AZ. New tires too!!! Did not have a clue when it happened. Someone flagged us down all those times. Broke a weld on the frame of 5er. Had to stop and find someone to weld it. This was on a Wildcat 5th wheel we had. Yes we do carry good insurance.
You didn't mention that insurance could go up from claims.

I think the $400 we paid for the tire monitor is little to pay to save our 5th wheel from damage. Or save us from sitting on side of the road in a dangerous situation from a flat.

skylos - Not only do you know nothing about TPMS especially the Pressure Pro system, it is obvious that you have no desire to know. A simple search on Goggle or any other search engine will give you a wealth of knowledge.
I assume you are aware, or maybe not, that the Federal Government has mandated that all new cars, trucks, multipurpose vehicles and buses weighing 10,000 lbs or less have a TPMS. Of course if you buy a new vehicle I am sure that you will disconnect yours.

10/4!!!!! and that means I agree with the above statement.
