What is your cut off point?
We are fortunate, our costs are still fairly low.
Friends were just quoted 6500.for the season.
Another friend, mid eighties, payed twenty five dollars per day for himself last year.
Sooner or later, we have to say enough is enough.

I know you have to pay to leave Canada, to cover your medical needs for insurance. I'm 62 years of age living in New York, I pay $28.33 a day for my medical insurance, or $850.00 a month (individual). That is for Blue Cross Blue Shield. Guess that's why were in such an up roar down south of the boarder with our congress. Good Luck Bill

Sea Dog,
We don't have to pay any more money for out of country medical costs. I know from Canadian friends that their cost becomes prohibitive the older you get.

Sea Dog, I'm 74 with a couple of "Pre-existing" medical problems and I just got my "Out of the country Emergency Health Insurance" for 165 days and the cost was $1770., that is with $200 deductible and 5 million coverage. So yes it's getting pricey but as long as I can afford it I will keep heading south for the winter. I do know some that go south without it but that is a risk I'm willing to take. Fred

Fred:
That does not sound like too bad a rate.
Mind saying who you dealt with?
You are correct, there is no way that I would consider going with no insurance.

Here in Manitoba I don't pay anything for my medical, on a monthly basis, and do not have a deductible (I know I pay through my income taxes). Yes the wait times can be a little longer but I am not in danger of losing my coverage or having it canceled on me. As for out of country medical I have to top up my coverage because of the high daily medical costs in the US and the fact that Canada will only cover a small portion of them. BTW the same thing happens if you visit Canada and get sick. Most if not all insurance companies will only pick up a portion of your costs. We are both in our mid sixties and our coverage is $1230.00 total for 6 months through Medipac. DW in good health I have Hypertension (high blood pressure). Medipac does not count hypertension unless you are taking more than 3 meds for it and diabetes. Here is a quote from their questionnaire.

"a total of 3 or more medications for Diabetes (including Glucose Intolerance), Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) or both? The term "medication" includes diuretics (water pills)"

Hi Sea Dog sorry about not getting back to you sooner but just got into a RV park and checked the internet.
The company that mine is through is TIC. Here is the web page:
TIC
I get mine through a broker here in Alberta and I believe that you need to use a broker in your own Province. Hope this helps, Fred

Is it time for Whole World Health Care?
Now there;s something everyone could agree on (g)
I pay $998 a month for Regence Blue Shield, for me and my wife.
What happens when I reach Medicare age? (63 now) Will I still have to pay the full bill to Regence to keep my wife covered? Never thought about the reverse complications for us if we visit Canada and get sick.
Thanks for something to think about.
Best,
Arborist

Thanks:
Yes we do use a broker.
We have been very satisfied with his service the past ten years or so.
Of course, we have never had to make a claim.
I think that it is much wiser to use a broker than to deal with banks, credit unions etc.
