Sounds like you have a good panel. Someone mentioned a diode, I would put a diode in series to prevent any type of reverse current flow. Also, the panel, at 4 amps, is potentially capable of eventually overcharging the batteries if left on continuously. As mentioned, you now want to consider a "decent" charge controller to limit current once the batteries are charged.

I too am beginning to think you might want to pick up that other panel.

over charging ? not if he has more than ONE battery, 4-5 amps on (2) or more batteries 225 amprs or more of system, still a controller is a good idea

use large wire for the whole system, and put the controller as close to the batteries as possible. 6ft or less, NOT 20 ft away and NOT over the fridge

heat kills electronics, long wires cause voltage drop.. same problems as installing a converter/charger, bigger wire is better, higher voltage at the batteries is better

Options, always have options, and the journey goes much smoother

Well, just a note...I keep 2 diesel starting batteries charged at 400 ma - still, I do agree that 4 or 5 amps might not damage 2 paralleled large batteres - I guess I was considering that second panel, and even that might not damage them, but I still recommend the regulator...

I would be willing to bet that in about thirty years your 75 watt panel will still be putting out about 60 watts. We'll check back with you then. Don't sweat the age thing too much.
