We have a MH and a CCI lp gas detector that shuts the gas off when it is turned off. We are parked for long periods of time and shut our coach batteries off so that we don't overcharge them. We just installed 2 new coach batteries and charged them and then shut them off. After a couple of weeks the lp gas detector shut the gas off. We turned the batteries back on but the detector still did not turn on. We actually had to start the coach to get the detector to turn back on. After we had it back on we turned the coach off and turned the batteries off again to see if the detector was working and it was. Right now we are keeping the batteries turned on until we can get to the bottom of the problem. Is it possible that the small amount of power that the detector needs to operate could actually drain the batteries after a couple of weeks when the batteries are new. Or is it possible that we have a problem with our detector. Is it possible to replace this detector with a detector that just senses leaks and actually doesn't have a switch on it that shuts the gas off. Any help or advise on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

1. IF you are using the RV, never turn the batteries OFF. The Converter or the Inverter/Charger NEEDS the load(batteries) to operate correctly.
2. Some of the CCI detectors use 2- 12 volt input leads.
1 from the coach battery and 1 from the chassis battery.
3. The reason the detector is wired direct to the batteries is simple. Because of the type electronics on the detectors, they require that they be wired direct to the batteries to prevent voltage spike problems from the Converted current.
4. You will find CCI is out of business and finding a replacement is difficult, so yes, I would remove the 12 volt solenoid at the LP tank and get just a standard LP detector. Doug

A lot of the CCI LP gas detectors got power from the chassis batteries and also a power line from the house batteries.

Is yours that way? Detectors do go bad. Usually by giving false warnings a lot.
Also low battery power will do the same.

By the way CCI is no longer in business. And are real hard to find replacement.

I did this about four years ago and it solved my battery drain problems. The solenoid apparently takes an amp or two to hold the valve open for gas flow and drains the batteries in just a few days. I don't believe the new RV's have these valves any more, maybe some one will chime in here with some more info on this type of solenoid / valve.
