I'd have to agree with Jlawless post; I'd also agree that sometimes there is only time for a quick trip to/from Alaska. Having made a few quick trips (CdA to AnC in 71 hours, AnC to Spokane in 85 hours, Longview TX to Anch in 7 days come to mind), I understand quick trips, but the trip to/from/within Alaska is not like taking an interstate for the same distance here in the states.
Similarly, the attractions of Alaska run the gamut from the (relatively) sophisticated (cocktails at the Crow's Nest, seeing the Lion King at the PAC) to much more rustic (riverboat, ATV, and dog sled tours). However, the opportunities to enjoy the more rustic end of that spectrum is what makes Alaska Alaska.
I believe that Alaska has some exceptionally unique scenery and ambience. However, the point raised about scenery in Montana etc is valid. If I could (or had to) live somewhere besides Alaska (or Texas currently dagnabit), Montana, Idaho, B.C., or the Whitehorse area are just spectacular and the Kluane area in particular just really strikes a chord with me.
Oh well; living in Texas and awaiting my return to Alaska

Strange how different people react to things differently. We blew the engine in our motorhome 50 miles South of Fairbanks on the Parks highway, had to fly home for 4 weeks while a new engine was shipped up and installed, flew back and continued our trip and still had a blast.

Hmmmmm ... Done the Alaska thing and from the prospective of a World adventure traveler, IMHO it's 'somewhat' overrated. To many miles of scrubby trees between nice scenery. The OP makes a valid point, Montana (or any Rocky MT State) has a lot to offer without having to drive the high miles.
Plus, because there are so few roads up there, the lower 48 offer a lot more back-road adventures.

First I checked the OPs date of posting. Thought it might be a carry over from April 1st. Nope. Checked his profile to see if he is a long time & prolific poster having fun with us. Nope again.
30 days for TX to AK & have all that stuff happen!!!!! This guy can't be real or is one of the most under prepared under researched RVer ever to go to AK.
We went last year. 120 days from MD AK rtn & did not have enough time. Did not have any flats. Started with new tires & carried 2 spares for the trailer. One miniscule windshield chip obtained in CO. IF he went I recognise the CG N of Calgary he says he stopped at. Nothing great at all but OK for a stop.
My suggestion for Dr J is to get rid of the motorhome & use the money on bus tours & cruises. That way somebody is always there to hold your hand & there is always somebody else to blame if things don't go as you want.
The AK & Canada you went through are not the same as the ones the rest of us pass through.

Nope, it's actually the same, and only, one; what part of people experience things differently do you not understand? Next I suppose there will be a list of approved CDs we're supposed to listen to as we drive along? Did you miss the posting of the AK natives who make the drive in several DAYS?

I think he made the case to go to Alaska and Canada. Isn't the reason why we RV is to see the other side of the mountain and see if we can handle what it throws at us?
If we applied the critical thinking the OP would have us do we should sell our RV's and just book a Cruise - then we would see it all. We could then just book rides on a bus and they would show us what we are supposed to see - no matter where we are.
Well if i did this, I would never have gone cross country with wife, 3 kids and 2 dogs and towing a Hyundai in a 24' Class C. I would have missed the July snowball fight at Crater Lake (kids still talk about it today), the Bison stoppping traffic on the brige in Yellowstone for 45 minutes while he decided what he wanted to do (kids had a front seat to that event!).
Again, because I didn't know what to expect, I wouldn't have done my 3 day 2 nite backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon. I could have taken a helo (or whitewater cruise) and see all that I have to see!
No thanks. I will continue my journey, I enjoy encountering the unknown. I do slow down and smell the roses. I don't think my RV has been over 62 MPH yet and is usaully much slower then this.
Sorry you had a bad time - but the journey is the destination. Enjoy it.
