Any golf fans? I've been to a few PGA events, including a couple that Tiger played in, and although they were fun they were not near as fun as watching LPGA events. Thanks to Tiger, PGA events are a mad house. You spend a lot of the day looking at the back of people's heads. The LPGA events are not as crowded and although these girls are not hitting the ball as long as Tiger and Phil, they are pretty amazing to watch. If you're a golfer you'll really appreciate the accuracy that these girls have. Wacthing it on TV is nothing like seeing it in person.

I went to the LPGA tournament last week in California at Blackhawk County Club and it was great. Lorena Ochoa is simply an amazing athelete. For some reason on TV she looks stockier than she is in person. I don't think she weighs more than about 115 pounds, but she can drive a golf ball 300 yards. I can only dream about hitting a ball that far.

If you like golf, and you have an LPGA event that you can get to, I highly recommend it.

They just played in Crackville, Al. I cant imagine how hard it was to suppress the urge to make lewd jokes about crack ho's. I know I failed miserably.

They are some very talented golfers for sure. My son just broke 4 over par yesterday and has dreams of playing professionally. They would shred him.

Did your son watch 14 year old Alexis Thompson shoot a 65 on Thursday? She finished tied for 27th, but still, she's in 9th grade!!!

Besides there being some serious Eye Candy out there playing golf, these girls are good. With a mid or shorter iron in their hands they are deadly. And the TV anouncers aren't just showing & talking about Tiger whether he's playing or not. The LPGA and we men can thank Jan Stephenson for showing the golf world that a slim pretty girl can be competetive on the Tour also.

Have never been to an LPGA tournament but, if I'm ever in the area of one I'll go.
Regarding PGA tournaments that TW is in: I've been to several and I specifically AVOID his crowd whenever I can. There's many other golfers on tour that I'd rather watch, and that you can actually see. Too many "in the hole" shouters in his crowd for me. I'll watch Kenny Perry, Brandt Snedeker, or Fred Funk any day over TW.

I took my nephew and he wanted to see Tiger. It was the 2002 US Open at Pebble Beach. I took him on Friday thinking it wouldn't be as crowded, but the golf course was sold out. What that means as they packed as many people onto Pebble Beach as they could. We got to see Tiger a couple of times, but I convinced him to watch some of the others, but it was still crowded no matter what hole you were on. Pebble Beach just doesn't have a lot of room.

A good PGA even to attend is the first three days of the AT&T Pro-Am in Monterey. They play the first three days on three courses at the same time. Tiger never plays in that event and with three courses going there is plenty of room to see the other big names. The last day is just on Pebble Beach and I watch that day on TV.

I've been to several PGA Championships, as well as a couple of LPGA and Seniors events and a couple of practice rounds at the Masters. Some observations: The Ladies have a range of motion in their swings that is impossible for men to duplicate. If I tried that, I'd be in traction for a month. My guess is that they would be good at most any sport that they chose to pursue.
If you ever get a chance to go to a practice round at the masters, by all means do so. You can't get the feel for how hard that course is without walking it once or twice. The tee shot on 18 is about as wide as a bowling alley. The green on 16 is so steep, that I don't know how the golfers stand up on it. The grounds are as beautiful as the course itself.
The seniors events draw a smaller crowd so you get to actually see them hit their shots. They still "got game" and seem to enjoy the game more as they've matured.
The PGA tour is a different story. Between the "talking head" announcers and Tim Finchem, they have ruined the game for me. I fully expect the announcers to start talking about what Tiger would have done on a particular shot even if he's not playing that week. They show every shot he makes, even if he's 10 shots behind the leaders in the final round. As for Finchem, he has introduced the Drunk College Student to the game along with "stadium golf". I never thought I'd hear hundreds of idiots yelling "in the hole" at the moment the pro's club contacts the ball on a par 5 tee shot. And I certainly never expected to hear fans booing a golfer for missing a green. Maybe he should think about replacing the volunteers that hold up the "quiet" signs during a putt with scantily clad models from the WWF and start issuing air horns to the fans as they enter the gate. Hey, how about "full contact" golf?

I've only done that once, but that's because it rolled 100 yards down the cart path.....

I'll be Marshalling Hole #1 for the 2010 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits. Really looking froward to it. It is a beautiful golf course along Lake Michigan.

I went the last time it was here (as a spectator in 2004) and it was neat to see the big names up close. Also saw the Seniors Tour there a couple of years ago. I got Tom Kite's autograph, along with Tom Watson, Fuzzy Zoeller, Craig Stadler and a couple others. The Seniors seemed more receptive to giving out autographs (during the practice rounds) over the younger PGA Tour players.

When Tiger Woods was here in 2004, he started his practice round very early and was off the course before the public was allowed in.

I was at the 1982 US Open at Pebble Beach and I was on 17 when Tom Watson hit "The shot." That is when he chipped in out of the rough off the green. I was there, but I didn't see it because I was behind about 100,000 people. I did see him birdie 18, but I was watching the green through binoculars from back at the 18th tee. If you go to the pro-shop at Pebble they sell a three photo set of Watson's chip shot. I think they want about $500 for the framed photos. One of these days I may buy it.
