Has anyone used the new Netgear 3G Mobile Broadband Wireless Router? I seen it in the October 2009 motor home Magazine. It says it will give you internet access any time even on the road. They also say it will create a WiFi hot spot anywhere even where DSL and cable connections are not available. Sounds too good to be true but who knows

We have a Verizon air card now which works ok but it's very slow on our home PC.

Thanks in advance on any input

It's simply a wireless router for use with a USB aircard. It looks like it's very similar to the more popular CradlePoint CTR350.

You can get a rundown on 3G routers here at 3Gstore.com.

I should add, RVers who are really serious about speed and coverage frequently get antennas and amplifiers. I'm loaded for bear with a trucker antenna and a powerful amp that I share between my cell phone and internet cards. I have the CradlePoint CTR500 with a Verizon USB card and a Sprint Express card. I will say that Verizon is hit and miss all along I-5 in the valleys, and their coverage map is overoptimistic... but Verizon is better than Sprint in some areas of the Southwest.

I use a Top Global, but it works the same as Netgear. You still need the aircard. Plug in the aircard and the router does the rest. Speed is still governed by your aircard connection.

We use our router exclusively in the MH and speed is usually equivalent to DSL as long as we get at least 2 bars in EVDO. We have Verizon, and usually have at least 2 bars, but like any cell service, you'll find weak spots

We just recently purchased the new Verizon 2200 mobile MiFi card replacing their USB modem. Card is actually built by Novatel. Both of us can be online at the same time and speed is comparable to the USB modem. Don't leave home without it now. As far a connnectivity goes, we are here in the SW and very rural (70 miles from Tucson). We have found that almost without exception the only cell service available in our area is Verizon. We have hit all lower 48 states in the last 7 years and found connectivity problems only once. The folks at Fishing Bridge Campground in Yellowstone tell everyone to go down the road about 3/4 mile and stop by the lake to get cell coverage.

The equipment has been around for several years. I bought a Kyocera KR1 for a Verizon PCMCIA cellular modem about four years ago. It is a 12 volt wireless router that does everything you describe. I've since upgraded the cellular modem to a faster USB plug-in. It's still plugged into the KR1, which I can take out of the MH and plug into the car when I need a mobile hot spot.
