We have a 15KW natural gas stand by generator with a whole house transfer switch. We installed it after my wife went on an oxygen concentrator - we are in an area that has many hours long, even days long utility outages.
Bigger than I needed, but got a great deal on the generator. A big advantage - when running on the generator anything, in fact, everything in the house is available, including cooking on our 240v electric stove. It even automatically runs itself once a week.

'coot' do you have a well pump ? will you need to power it ? is your cooking stove electric ?
IF no then a small 2000 watt generator will enable you power the fridge and the freezer and have a few lights and TV. maybe even brew coffee and use the microwave, BUT not all at the same time, MW all by its self, other items together depending on power use
a 2000w generator can weigh as little as 46lbs (honda) or up to around 75lbs for a std open frame model
the (2) important things are 'load management' when running
and when you first get, RUN IT
take it out , put oil & gas in it, and run it for the number of hours stated for break-in, then change the oil, then store empty and dry, and keep fresh gas available,
every couple of months pour the gas from the storage can into your vehicle and refill the storage cans, that or mix them with stabil or sea foam, to keep the gas from going bad
you don't want the day you need it. to be the first time you run it.
Options, always have options, and the journey goes much smoother

Nope.
Might run one, maybe, if the refrigerator is a small one and it doesn't go into the defrost cycle.
Domestic refrigerators and freezers draw a whole lot more power than does the RV models.

I ran the home fridge, freezer, rear projector TV and satellite receiver for several days last winter with the eu2000i. Never had an overload.
