We often travel to many parts of the country, even in peak season, with no reservations. But trying to reserve a place in Florida State Parks during winter anywhere near the coasts or southern Fl. just seems to be geting harder and harder. If I didn't need to visit a son there, I would elininate Fl as a destination. Anyone else feeling this way? Several parks we like already show few or no spots available during Feb-Mar. Also, I think they may reserve all or nearly all the spots so I'm afraid to take a chance on just showing up. Oscar Scherer SP is rediculous. I don't know how anyone gets a spot there? Last year, we got in by taking 1 day spots and changing all the time and I'm not doing that again.

Yes, they are very popular because they are very nice. We reserve 11 months in advance to the minute to get the sites we like.

It's called SNOWBIRDS.. We live here in Florida and can't get a spot. I spoke to a friend of mine who is a State Park Manager, and he had no answers about it, but stated that it is a well known problem within the state park system. But it's not only the state parks, but any public campground close to the coast. But yet let me go north for the summer, and since I don't live there I'm paying 2x's as much. So seems fair play would be for the snowbirds to return home and FIGHT to lower the cost of state park campgrounds for out of state visitors since they enjoy the same price as I do here in Florida.....

It's the same way in the summer. We stay at Topsail Hill in June and make our reservations as early as possible, I mean at 12:01AM at the earliest date!

Not to sound mean spirited but I wish more people would eliminate Florida as a destination. I can't find a spot when I want either.

Many of us in Florida would love to get into our state parks during the best camping weather which is in the winter. It is very difficult to do as they are booked solid all winter long, primarily by snowbirds. We who work cannot get a weekend site until May. That's the price we pay for living in paradise, well at least it's paradise during the winter weather!!

Remember, we have TO PAY IN FULL 11 MONTHS IN ADVANCE.

Without all that money, many FL State Parks would probably be closing like the parks in Cal.

Marty and Shirley,

Can you tell me which parks are charging you 2x as much as a resident? Please be specific as I have never heard of this.

Ed

PS You can come up here and fish in the salt water for free. My wife and I have to pay $105 to fish in your salt water.
