Also on most 5th wheel trailers it is difficult to get access to the front basement storage when you stop for 1 night and do not unhitch the trailer.

I have had a short bed with and without a slider hitch. There was NO difference in the distance between the bumper and the storage compartment door when hitched up. The king ping was placed ahead of the rear axle the same distance.

I do not understand this response either.

I'd get the 18k. You'll never be able to haul anything that would need the 24k with a short bed truck.

rick83864,

Dont know about a replacement, but this is the only 20K Reese I know of.

On edit - just googled "reese 20k 5th wheel hitch" and found these. Possible they submitted for re-rating as they did their 15K in 2002 and obtained 16K rating or it is a discontinued model. If the model was changed/upgraded to 22K, these may be leftover in dealers stock. It is still a good hitch.

x2

And, the Superglide decision is one you won't regret. As far as access to the front storage. As an older trailer, my pinbox is about as far back as it can get. I still have more than enough room to get into the front compartment. In fact, with the short bed, there's room enough to drop the tailgate while attached.

The only issue I can think of with front access is if Jerry is thinking you can slide your hitch manually with the manual sliders (gaining 11-12" more clearance) and still be straight inline with the truck parked where as with an autoslider you wouldnt be able to do this.

There are some angular limitations hitching the auto-sliders due to the capture plates but doesnt seem a big concern to most owners.

If our plans go as planned, out next hitch will be an 18K Pullrite Autoslider.

Several errors in this post. He has been given bad information somewhere along the line. And obviously this poster has no experience with the PullRite SuperGlide. My intent is not to flame. But to correct bad information.

To clarify:
The automatic slider does not limit your options in hitching or unhitching. I have unhitched and hitched my PullRite at 90 degrees ( and less) on several occassions. I wouldn't even attempt that with a manual hitch. The way you do it with the PullRite is to lift the hitch plate out with the elevators. No side loading stress on the front legs.

I have also had full access to my front compartment when hitched. This has absolutely not been a problem.

Totally agree with Vulcaneer.

Seems the only people that talk about hitching problems with automatic sliders are those who don't own them.

I don't understand that previous post. How does a slider limit your hitching and unhitching ability? I have a 16K pullrite I had in a 2000 F250 short bed. Bought an 08 short bed dually just so I could keep my slider. Never had an issue getting at front compartments with either truck or trailer. Pullrite has redesigned their capture plate- now only has 4 allen screws into the side to take it off and on. Had new Raptor back for warranty work and forgot to take plate off. Dealer had no problem moving trailer around with it on.

Exactly. I dropped my fiver at the dealer the other day for some work. The tech saw my superglide and said "we can't move this trailer". I told him "sure you can... just pop off the capture plate, move the trailer where you want it then put the plate back on."
