Was wondering how many other folks on here do this and what type equipment they use. I am low budget, livestock trailer and tent. Started going with my 18 hand draft earlier this year and love it. Wish I would have started taking him sooner. Will be camping on Assateague the 10-12 of November.

Haven't done it....and never even considered it when we had horses, about 23 years ago, as RVing wasn't in our consciousness then.

I think if we were going to do something like that now, we'd have one of those combination trailers.....the horse trailer, with the living space in the other half of the trailer......look to be very nice units, though I've only seen them on the highway, or in photos....usually they are 5th wheels.

Camping with trailer (for horses) and tent (for people) will work, but sounds like "roughing it" to me...
Other option might be either a MH or a TC and tow the horse trailer behind you....at least then you'd have a bathroom!

Do it all the time. I realize we are in different parts of the country, but I just got back from 9 days in the pines of Northern Arizona. Heaven... I pull my horse trailer with my Super C and it does great, no problems at all. I went with the Super C from the Class A because I wanted a little more ground clearance and I hated the thought of driving an expensive moho down a dirt road, I don't care how short the road was..... I'll try and attach a pic or two (never done that before). Send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you some shots of the bear I rode up on while riding the horses.

Can't figure out how to add a pic...

I don't, because I have access to thousands of acres of riding trails from my house, but there are 3 very nice "horse camps" within a few miles of my house. Lots of $$$, livestock trailers with living quarters seem to be the most popular, with TC's pulling bumper pulls second. The camps have nice paddocks with center ridge poles and people string tarps over them to make temporary barns, lots and lots of trails around here, lots of horse specific and multiuse.

We used to endurance ride. Started out with a slide in Sunlite popup on a 3/4 chevy pickup while hauling a 2 horse trailer. Then graduated to a small 24' class A mh, still pulling the horse trailer. Slide in was cheaper but the A more comfortable after a long day in the saddle. Both towed well. Used a portable electric fence to contain horses. Still have my black Arabian, but gave up the competitive riding. Most of my serious rider friends have gooseneck fivers with combined living quarters and 3 horse units. Others have class C's to pull the trailers. Lots of choices, but those goosenecks get real pricey if you are on a budget.

It might just be me, but there really is something to be said for riding in unknown territory, through open spaces. Maybe it's just that "unknown" thing. I also have a few acres out my back door to ride in, only 16,000 (South Mountain Preserve), but it's just not the same as being in the middle of unexplored lands....seeing new things.

The high end 5ers or goosenecks are great for a few days, 3 max. After that you really start missing some of the comforts of a full size rig... Besides if you have an actually moho you can use it when your not riding. You won't use your live-in horse trailer much without the horses. IMHO

I used to camp at trail rides with a tent. Then bought a 2 horse gooseneck with a dressing room. We put a hide-a-bed mattress in the nose and used it as our sleeping quarters. It was much more comfortable than the ground.

I've camped many times with my horses. 3 horse goose neck with front dressing room. I put a mattress in the nose of the trailer and had 2 12 volt fans inside. Mounted battery under the dressing room. Added a awning to the trailer and it was comfortable. I've ridden in many different places, that's the fun part, to explore. Rode on the same trail that Butch and Sundance used. That was fun and with a good imagination it'll take you back to that time. Loved it.

Good to see there are others out there. I'd love to move up to something like a horse trailer with living quarters. Riding in different enviroments is what I like as well. I even ride him to the store in town for variety.
I havent updated my sig but we relocated to just outside Gettysburg, PA and I ride the battlefield everyweek. We meet and talk with reenactors and visitors from all over the world, pretty cool. We also have many other places to go close by but nothing like what you guys have out west must be beautiful!
I do enjoy seeing different locations/scenery.He and I hit the road this summer down South and had a blast. Going back to Assateague to visit family and taking him along to camp and ride there. Hope its not too windy or I'll be sleeping in the truck.
