Just add water to FW tank and pump thru the system with faucets opened. Takes maybe a minute or two.

What will you be in the home show for, so I know what to look for?
Mike
Oops! I almost forgot to come back to this!
If you go to the show, look for the solarium display. It's at the Sportsplex - Booth 59 - Suntastic Solariums. I'm restricted to an 8 X 8 instead of my usual 20 X 10 so I only have a small portable display. Look for a black & grey checkered backdrop with pics of sunrooms and such, and also a digital picture frame with a slideshow of sunroms and patio covers.
Show starts 6 PM Friday and runs through the weekend. Come say Hi!!

Hi all,
As I winterize 6 to 8 times per "season", I've taken to saving as much of the pink antifreeze as I can when I "de winterize".
I connect my air compressor to the shore water supply, then blow the lines one by one into a suitable container and pour it into the jug that the anti freeze originally came in. I can usually save about 1/2 gallon.

I blow out the lines AND use the pink stuff. My plumbing system appears to be complicated enough that I'm not confident that blowing it out won't leave enough water behind to cause problems. But I don't just pump the pink stuff through because with the dilution from the water in the lines, it would take to much of the stuff. So I blow out most of it, then pump the pink stuff through to get the rest. Even so, not putting any pink stuff in the tank, and with the water heater bypassed, I still need about 5 gallons of the pink stuff. I'm sure it would be much more if I didn't blow it out first and had to deal with dilution issues, running the flow until I got solid pink.
I think that there may be a correlation between location and how people winterize. Farther South, people seem to be confident with just blowing out the lines, but as you move North, more and more people seem to feel the need for the pink stuff. It's not a perfect correlation, as there are people down South who use the pink stuff, and people up North who just blow out the lines.
It probably has to do with how gutsy people feel: Southerners who are very conservative might be inclined to go with the pink stuff, while some Northerners who like to live on the edge might be comfortable with just blowing out the lines.

It doesn't take me much to flush the pink stuff out of the lines. When I de-winterize, I take the opportunity to sanitize the fresh water system with bleach -- fill the tank with bleach solution, run it through the lines (thereby flushing out the pink stuff) and let it sit for a while. Then I flush the tank, and run fresh water through the lines to get the excess chlorine out -- that's what takes all of the flushing water, not the pink stuff.
I don't keep track of how many gallons of water it takes, since a majority of it is to flush out the 100 gallon FW tank a few times, and I have no issues dumping that rinse water on the driveway because most of it doesn't go through the drain lines or into the tanks. As far as what does end up in the tanks - the pink stuff, sanitizing bleach, and the rinse water for the lines, that's much less than a holding tank's worth, and I dump that according to normal practices.
