It sounds like your school district is standing behind you and that is half the battle. I drove for Boise for 5 years and writing students up for bad behavior time after time produced no results.
Stopping the bus and threatening not to move until conduct improves only works on the way HOME!!!

The school district that my wife drove 27 years for had what you need. They had color video with sound. Of coarse the kids didn't believe it until they got called to the principals office with there parents. After they saw the tape, case closed. Two more times they were off the bus for the rest of the school year. One time a high school boy that wasn't any part of the problem was seen (on tape) by the principal sitting side ways in his seat and he got busted. The buses had seat belts and he didn't have his on. As you already know admin takes discipline on the bus very seriously .

Julie, you have my highest admiration! My wife works as a KG Ass't. and they even have problems with KG kids on the busses! Now, that is getting bad. I'm sure glad that the bus co. & school stand behind and back you up! That makes all the difference in your discipline. A lot of the kids lack structure and discipline at home-----their parents are to worried about their jobs and social life to be that concerned with their childrens lives. RE: Ferris Buelier's Day Off movie just as an example.
I hope and pray that GOD will continue to bless you with all of the children you work with on your bus routes. They sure need a good example and guess what? Y O U ' R E I T ! Plus, the video tapes with sound and color sure narrow down the individuals that are guilty and the ones that are NOT. Be happpy that you have that as a back-up. Kids sure can't deny their guilt that way! Our three kids had to ride busses---'til they got old enough to work and get their driving license and their own vehicle. Made all the difference! Learned that their Dad & Mom weren't so dumb after all and they learned a little responsibility along the way, too!

I drove part time a few years ago and used the same tactics. I n fact that was the only tactics that were allowed short of corporal punishment. I have put teachers in they're place on couple of occasions. had one teacher on the return trip from a field trip didnt like getting passed by vehicles on a 4 lane highway. His comment although he may not have meant it in a bad way but it caught me just right. He leaned forward from his seat dirctly behind me and asked if I ever got the feeling I was the slowest driver on the road. I replied that his job was to supervise the kids in his charge and I have a responsibility for getting all of them including him AND myself to and from point A to point B safely. I was driving 65 which was the posted speed limit for that stretch of hiway. He apoligized and didnt mean to insult me. When you thing about it nobody likes to follow a school bus and I told him I could be doing 85 mph and there would still be vehicles passing us. On another trip I had 2 teachers on board and I would allow the radio in the bus to be played but only agreed upon station or music preference. The choice was a cd brought by one of the students and I allowed it. Enrout on the trip I heard a student say to turn up a song track, I didnt, again I heard the request and then was asked by a teacher to turn it up for them. a minute later another song was on and it was a home made cd so the tone changed from song to song. About half way thru that song the other teacher hollered at me to turn it down. then the other turn it up, I finally got TURN IT DOWN! (CLICK) The radio went off. After all the moaning from the kids and plea from one of the teacher to listen to it at the level I chose, I turn it back on but tuned it to my favorite oldies radio station. The teachers apoligized at the end of the trip and said that they wanted music also on the long trip and I handled the issue well in the end. The op has the right idea, the driver is in charge of the bus when behind the wheel no matter who is riding.

When Our daughter drove a school bus, she had a little girl that would go home and cry to her mother that she was getting picked on by the other kids. Well one day the mother boarded the bus at the stop, and assaulted my daughter, because she told her it wasn't happening. The bus company also video tape everything, everyday on the routes, (standard practice). They had the mother watch the videos, proving that it was not happening, and she (the little girl) still insisted that she was getting picked on.
Come to find out, the mother was a cancer patience and the little girl was looking for attention.
After that my daughter had the girl sit in the sit across from her and started asking her questions and talking to her. Guess that helped because she never complained about the bus ride again.
That was a little sad for the girl and her family, but the video did prove it wasn't happening. Needless to say, daughter was very grateful for the video, because she did have to defend herself.

Don't ask how I know, I will NEVER admit it...
Besides, the statute of limitations has run out!
Would you believe that duct tape is specifically mentioned by Oregon's children services as unacceptable parenting
