I plan on leaving the power hooked up during the winter here at our campground. The owners leave the electric on, so if you want to come out in the winter and have a day you can. Anyway, I do not plan on taking my RV batteries out...they should be okay right? I will have it winterized, pink stuff, done tomorrow. Also, is it best to leave day/night shades up for the winter months?

Hi BigDadGary,

Depending on what type of charging system you have for the house battery bank it may be unwise to leave them connected for an entire winter.

The batteries will be ok, just check the water levels in them. Why not get a small oil filled heater and leave it plugged in also.

No problems with batteries as long as you check them every month or so until you know how well your batteries like it. I can't even imagine taking down the shades for the winter but we took ours out completely for both summer AND winter because they were a Pita. If you like them just leave them up.

Not sure what you mean by this. The poster above seems to think that you mean "uninstall" them.

I took this to mean leave them up or down. We leave our day/night shades in the "night" position whenever we're not camping. It helps to stop fading from the sun.

I thought it too...to leave day/night shades down for winter...but my neighbor says by leaving them down all winter can cause them to stretch out...become loose... and lose the tension. Anyone else think this?

On a fairly nice day during the winter...we can come up and open the slides, and turn on furnace, and have electric...We can enjoy a fire outside...the 5er will be winterized, (water will be off at the park)we can bring bottled water for drinking and washing hands, and we have a nice permanent out-house building to use toilet.

I will come up at least once a month to check on it anyway (campground is only 38 miles from home...we got a seasonal site) I have a dual battery water filling system installed...so I can check battery water levels very easy.

each to his own. I never leave my fifth wheel plugged in just for the batts. I always unplug and turn the batt switch off. Same as the bazillion other batts in this world that do not get pampered 24/7. My fifth wheel seems to be happy in the power down mode for storage.

Personally if mine is parked/stored outside, I pull the shades to keep the sun light off of the interior.

It will work either way - happy camping.

Yeah, if I had it in storage somewhere other than a campground...I would feel the same as you, and not have it plugged in, but I can still use mine in the winter if I choose , and I will be (fortunately) checking it ever so often.

Mine is parked at home for the winter. I remove the battery and store it in my basement. Put a charge on it just once during the winter since the voltage does not drop much at all over a 4-5 month period.

I also keep my day/night shades lowered. No worry of streching anything out since there are no springs in them like the old roller shades.
