Hotbyle, I looked at your travel photos below there at you signature, and saw where you and you family had went to Stone Mountain, Georgia. Seeing this and since knowing that you had been there, you and some other might enjoy a tale that brought back a memory, of one of the first trips my wife and I took just after we got married several years ago.
There was and I would guess still today, a body of water that goes around the base, where some one plays an out side organ for the parks visitors. Well on this body of water, you can rent canoes. Now as a youth I had to learned to paddle a canoe, and after a LOT of pleading I convinced my beautiful wife, who was wearing a brand new red dress, to rent one of these. Loading all of our usual sight seeing paraphernalia, a 10x40 binoculars, 16 mm motion camera, and what was then a nice camera, a 35mm single lens reflex Cannon, her purse & a couple of jackets & off we went.
Ok, after a 15 minutes of effortless paddling, My dear wife up front ask if she could help paddle, sure I replied there is a spare paddle just to your right. On her first dip she swing her whole weight into it, and, now not only that, but her whole weight about 45 degrees off center to her right. I saw it coming, a bit I will admit to late, and I tried to throw all of my weight to the left to correct the inevitable. It was like when you shoot a rubber band from you fore finger. I vividly remember the water going by under me, as I was catapulted bodly some 4 feet or so to the right as over we went into that cool wet mote.
Now, the park has seen this kind of thing before, and they employ several of these very small motor dingies for such mishaps at key locations. As he approaches he ask us to not to attempt to clime in but to hold onto the side, as he will tow us to the shallow shore.
Now comes the part of the tale where divorces have accrued. As we reach the shallows, where ever one in the whole park it seems is watching. My wife stands up, as that red dress had flotes up to her shoulders and remains clinging there, and as she is left standing there with all that white underthings showing. The dress is made out of cotton and she is having one ....of a time trying to pull it all down while being soaked & dripping threw & threw. Finely after succeeding, she turns to me, fire spewing forth (I had popped up several steps behind) and shouts at the top of her lungs, " JOHN, I told you I did not want to go into that thing, now will you listen to me when I tell you something".
Oh what precious memories us camper do have,,,,,, with no pictures or for that matter a camera..............John

The lake and organ (called a Carillon) is still there. Hope, as SgtJoe stated, this is a story y'all laugh at now! Thanks for sharing it.

Here's a link I found to the Carillon and lake.

Yep, We are bonded. That happened when there was still chips of mountain carvings at the foot of the general on their horses. At the same time the music, "The Age of Aquarious", I believe from the play "Hair", was popular to give you a time line. And so was the term "Mini skirts & Boots" Her's was Red.
I have a hard time explaining, all of the memories good and bad,in this adventures of this thing called "Camping" to thoes "Non believers". we two are what they jokeing call, "tree huggers". So far for she & I, this and other times the laughs far out weigh the tears.
Thanks for asking, hope you enjoyed the tale as I did recalling............John

A real test of marriage. I was once told there are only six words a new husband needs to learn, and use: "Yes, dear", "I'm sorry", and "You're right" I'll admit I've used them from time to time, but not always with great success. Timing had a lot to do with that!

That's about right. A little over nine years ago as I was talking with my soon to be sil at the church, he asked me if I had any words of wisdom since me and the dw had been married over 30 yrs.
I told him remember these words when you start to argue.

You're right, I'm wrong, I'm sorry, Worked for him many a time and still works for me.
