Stupid, I know. My propane hose (one end fits a typical 20 or 40 lb. external tank, the other fits the Extend-A-Stay Tee, which it turns out is the same fitting as on a disposable lantern/BBQ mini-tank) is gone.

Gone, as in laying alongside I-15 somewhere. It turns out, my very clever use of storage space above the spare tire isn't really very clever after all.

Anyway, I cannot find a hose with the same two fittings except by buying a whole new Extend-A-Stay kit, which I don't need. I need a $15 hose! And the local propane dealers don't make custom hoses.

I thought I found the right one at Tweety's, but it turns out to be an extension hose. Like a garden water hose, one end will screw onto the other end. One end is correct (that Tee or BBQ thing), but the other end isn't a P.O.L. for the tank.

Is there an adapter to convert a standard extension hose to a P.O.L fitting for the external tank? And if I said that wrong, does anyone has enough ESP to know what I mean, and what I need to ask Tweety's for?

Feeling kinda foolish here, not to mention, ignorant about all the propane nomenclature. Education badly needed...

Hi,

If you happen to be close to Quartzsite, they can make a new one at one of the Propane suppliers.

The one that I am talking about is about 1/2 mile north of I10, on highway 95, on the east side of the road. They also rent RV spaces for about $12 (2 years ago) and have 4 round propane tanks. They can make a custom hose, any length that you want, with standard propane fittings on each end. You can pick the fitting, male or female hose end, and then the connector to the propane tank.

Yes I know it is common to find a fitting that fits the propane tank, and has a end that looks like a disposable propane tank, so you can hook it up to a BBQ, you can get those at Camping World among many other places. But to get a female end is rare. I use the standard hose, and then have an adapter that I bought the fittings at Deluxe RV in Bellflower, CA. I used two female ends, and one 3/8" coupling, now I can connect the hose end that looks like two disposable tanks together.

This might work for you?

Good Luck,

Fred.

Well, if you're going to Quartzsite, the lady at The Pit Stop will roll anything you want, at any length, and with way better hose that's not semi-rigid when cold. Other than that I got nothin'

Marshall Brass makes a fitting I think you are looking for. I have seen them at some Walmarts.

The Extend-a-stay uses 2 different hoses (if you have the deluxe model), but the one with the POL has a 1/4" inverted flair fitting on the other end, not the disposable type fitting. That fitting is for drawing out high pressure LP, and uses the extension type hose.

That's what I was thinking...the "extend-a-stay" is a 4 way fitting. The hose for getting propane INTO the MH is 1/4 flair for fitting and POL for tank. The hose for getting propane OUT of MH to a portable appliance (grill, camp stove, etc) is the male threads of a disposable bottle type fitting.

The "extend-a-flow" is the 3 way fitting with the disposable bottle type fitting.

From looking through catalogs, I thought the "deluxe" version was same fitting but included the hoses.

Most gas suppliers can make a hose to your specifications.

When you say the local propane dealers do not make hoses are you talking about just a local dealer or a propane distributor? I would think that the distributor would make them or know where to get one. You did not say where in Colorao you are located. I would think a distributor in the large cities or a rural area with a lot of customers using propane at home could help you.

I'm visiting between King City and Santa Cruz, CA and called every number under "Gas - Propane" in the local phone books. All referred me to CW or an RV shop. I'm sure someone, somewhere makes custom hoses, but apparently not around here.

I think an adapter must exist, and I'll start browsing the hardware aisles.

Thanks everyone for info so far...

Look for a "Distributer" who delivers Propane to tanks, not a dealer who fills tanks. They usually sell LP appliances also.
