The guy who told me about that was quite a talker. One of the things he used to say at work was "No matter where you go, people are usually proud of something in their town. All you have to do is LISTEN!" Always neat to hear something interesting about new places.

A little adaptation of walking every beach.... ours is "eating in every ocean front restaurant"....... OK OK..... THEN walking the beach!

Beaches are nice but I want to visit every micro brewery and sample their offerings. That should take awhile.

Grab your Atlas and find a different route to where you're going instead of the interstate...a blue hwy. Now you'll see countryside, little cafe's where they bake fresh pies with flakey crusts, a BBQ shack with meat that falls off the bone. Meeting down to earth people that live away from the speed and hectic life. We find city parks where you can camp for free, nestled around towering oak trees. Watch barges going up rivers, Amish working fields with horses. So walking the beaches are neat but savor the heartland too, much to offer. Covered bridges, festivals, ethnic villages, bed & breakfast...goes on and on.

DH and I agree with your wife.
One of the advantages of RVing FT is you plan your route (by Interstate), set it up at CG/RVP and use it as base camp. You can drive anywhere on narrow backroads without having to worry about height restrictions or running oncoming traffic off the road.

We are on our Dream Trip and have done both - In August we were in New Hampshire, we went to Vermont via the border down between, then we journeyed to Maine and went to Old Orchard Beach, and from there we traveled down the coastline and are in Richmond Hill (Savannah) at this time. Our next stop will be Starke, Florida - yeah - inland town. Have stayed in commercial campgrounds in small towns/cities rather than in the larger cities.
We have traveled both interstates, state highways, and some county roads, made for some very interesting days. We homebase in Eastern Washington State, so have transversed these states in an interesting manner by zig/zag manner these past 13 months. Some cafes, refuges, attractions, etc. could only have been seen by taking the smaller routes while touring the area.
