I've been looking at the prices for slide out trays from companies as Joeys and Kwikee. Does anyone know where I could buy strong enough slide side pieces to build my own?
(If they were small, I'd call what I want "drawer slides" but don't know what they are called this big.)

Campimg World used to have the "kits" for building your own drawers. Bunkley's catalog (Mobile AL) has Cargo Slide hardware for custom apps. macatak.tripod.com Check them out .... Kwikee heavy duty slide assemblies. I'm sure other suppliers have it too, that is just the catalog I picked up.

Any big home center, HD or Lowes, has heavy duty full extension slides in different sizes. Check them out.

Check out the slide kits from www.rvexit.com
Just use 3/4" plywood for the ends.

I don't know how large you want to go, but I built a full-through using garage door rollers, rails, 1/2 inch plywood and 2x2's.

Daveinet hit right on the money. I have personally used the "Accuride" "Full extension" drawer slides multiple times. If you use these, you will be the envy of many guys when they check out your slides. They are incredibly smooth and quiet. There's no side to side slack in them either. I've built many drawers holding rescue tools on fire trucks using them. Talk about weight! Many I built 15-18 years ago are still on the road. The bolts holding the slides to the wall have given way on a few of them but the slides are doing fine.

They are a bit costly but, you're getting the best that money can buy. They are precision built. The only problem we had and it may still exist is, there's no lock in the closed position. You will have to build your own locking mechanism that will hold the tray closed when traveling down the road. Usually no big deal. A dead bolt usually works fine. Good luck and let us know what you come up with. Scott
