Looking at buying a Honda EU2000i & EU2000i companion. Although I don't plan on using them immediately I personally feel I should set them up and test them. I feel a little silly running them and then draining the fuel and changing the oil just to test them but the security in knowing I have working units outweighs the headache.
Can anyone recommend some steps to break-in and put the generators through their paces.

always make sure when you exercise them you put a load on them, such as a light bulb etc. if you do leave any gas in them use sta-bil or equivalent. the present day gas is not good after about 30 days and Honda's do not like bad gas.

I exercise mine monthly with a 1200 watt heater plugged in for about 5 minutes. They love it!

Why would you change the gas and change the oil? While gas is not what it used to be, I have plenty of equipment that has gas that is a year or older and EVERYTHING starts and runs like new. Add some sea foam occasionally to help remove the varnish gas leaves in the carbs and you will be just fine. Best to leave the tank FULL of gas so condensation doesn't let water in, which is usually what causes most problems.

Anything with an engine should be run periodically or it won't work when you do need it. Generators need to have a load when run.

I use my honda when I'm pruning the hedge. It save lugging 100' of extension cord and exercises the generator. I usually keep stabil in the gas all the times and change the oil once a year.

No need to change the oil. Start them up and run a couple hours while hooking up your electric leaf blower. Blow some leaves.
That is all the break-in you need.

Use the blue Stabil which is the marine formula, the normal red formula doesn't treat for ethanol but the blue does and now that most gas has ethanol in it the blue is what the Honda service guys recommend. It's a little harder to find but more chain auto parts places carry it. The Honda generators, especially the EU inverters are very sensitive to bad gas. The marine formula is a little better dealing with water in fuel as well for obvious reasons.

As far as I know, there is no "break in "required.(check the manual)
Fire them up let em run a couple of minutes, put a load on.Then give yourself a pat on the back for getting a great pair of generators.
If you are going to store them for a while,do be sure an use the Sta-Bil.
