Our friends from Ontario decided on the spur on the moment to take a trip to the southwest. They would like to stop near Memphis on the way to check out the music and food but don't yet have maps and brochures. They travel in a class A DP w/toad. Where would be a good place to camp for a few days in the area. I once read a nice commet about Tom Sawyer in West Memphis. Do you agree? Or is their somthing closer like Graceland that is safe.
DW: "Honey, How did we get to be so old?"
DH: "Lucky I guess, it sure beats the alternative"

Tom Sawyer is a great place to stay.
It's close to Mud Island which is a need to see and from there you can walk to the tram and Beale Street.

Tom Sawyer is great. We enjoy Beale St, good BBQ, Memphis in May, Graceland and everything Tunica. Our 1st choice CG is Tom Sawyer and second would be the casino cgs in Tunica. Both are quick easy commutes to everything fun.

Tom Sawyer's great. I've read that the area around Graceland is rather dicey.
The only thing about Tom Sawyer is if the Miss. River is in flood (which it often can be in the spring). Then the cg is under water. (They have built the facilities to withstand flooding, but they do of course have to close the CG until the flooding recedes.)

"If" they are Elvis fans, try the RV park behind the Heart Break Hotes across the street from Graceland. Also, if looking for country music, we would highly recommend Nashville over Memphis, FYI.

When inquiring about the RV parks in the Graceland area of a police captain, I met at an accupuncturist, Dale was having treatments from a few years back. His response was "It's pretty rough, We don't dispatch a two-man car to that area at night, unless there is a second two-man car that will be at the same location."

I live in Memphis and haven't seen a two man car in years, even in the graceland area at night.

We stayed at campground behind Heartbreak Hotel for 3 nites. No problems and never felt uncomfortable with the area. You can get a pink limo to get ribs nearby. Limo comes right into campground to pick you up. Enjoyed the ribs there better than at Rendevous.
Didn't notice any police cars cruising the area. Maybe they only had one-man cars that week.

We're heading to Memphis in July and plan on staying at Graceland RV Park. Good reviews and they offer a shuttle service to/from Beal Street for $10 (I think). Saves you the hassle of fighting traffic and both of you can have a drink or glass of wine while dining out.
