I traded my MH in on a 5th Wheel yesterday and when I called Good Sam Ins to cancel I was asked if I was going to insure the 5th wheel with them and I said no. I was informed that there is a $50.00 fee to cancel as I was not going to insure my new RV with them. I have never been charged a fee to cancel any ins policy before and I think this is a fine for not doing business with Good Sam. Well if that's the way they treat customers I will never insure anything with them again.

Bryan, one very upset and no longer customer!

Typical practice. You are creating paperwork for them which will incur a cost. Unfair to pass that on to the rest of their customers, so they are going to charge you. Sounds reasonable to me if you are no longer going to have any policies with them.

I am a Good Sam member at present, but I don't think I will be anymore. I really don't think they have anything I want. I have my insurance with Ky.Farm Bureau, and am very happy with it.
I would feel exactly as you do. I would be PO'd Jim

Good Sam is written by GMAC, which has recently been downgraded to a B+ by AM Best. Plus GMAC received bail out money, not a good thing in my book.

I second Farm Bureau. Best rates and service.

There ARE a few businesses that charge you extra for doing nothing. I pay EXTRA for NOT having my phone number listed in the directory too. Doesn't give you a warm fuzzy feeling about doing business with them. I have to wonder just how they're going to get their money if you're no longer a customer Seems like it would be very difficult for them to collect unless they put the stipulation into the original policy. Funny thing is that MOST people don't trust insurance companies (with good reason) yet fail to actually READ the policy.

I have never been charged a cancelation fee to change companies. I was with Allstate at one time and another carrier. I have been with Traveler's for a bit now and they treat me very well.

As far as GMAC cnnmoney.com just had a article stating they were thinking of another dip into the federal bailout cash. Shame on them but shame on us for helping them. I have my lease through them and they have very, very poor service (lost 2 payments in a little over 3 months, applied only a patial payment and so on...) Also, I have found they have sourced all CS to overseas locations.

It's getting bad out there.

I would be upset too - and I think I would fight it to the point they would have to go to collections to get anything from me.

I really don't like that smiley face company at all - I'm sure if they just stopped sending out dump truck loads of junk mail to my house they wouldn't have to charge you that kind of malicious fee - and I'm NOT even a customer. The only sin I ever did was buy an RV and Sam's Halo has never left me alone since.

Naturally...they have to pay for the 10 advertisements we get from them every week some how!
