Any advice on building or purchasing a ramp to handle the weight of two dogs (english bull terriers 65lbs each) and myself 188lbs. They are skiddish descending the steepness of the stairs and both on leashs at a time of wanting to get down quickly to do the potty thing......we might end up in a dog pile....no pun intended!

Try one of the mail-order pet suppliers. Drs. Foster and Smith, for example have several varieties.

Do you travel with another person? If so, your partner could hold one leash while you escort the other down. I have a 150lb Newfoundland and I just put him on stay at the top of the steps while I descend, then give him a release command and he comes on his own. I have him go up first since it's safer to be on the ground while his "wide-body" fills the stairway.

We use a ramp from Petstep for our 70# 13 yr old Golden. She can't do steps and I can't lift her.
Ramp is very sturdy. Says it is rated for 500 lbs. That may be a stretch. But I weight 180 and can walk up it without feeling as if it will collapse.

Do not have one but occasionally get told it's a good product. Can not tell you anything about it save some author on the web likes it (he's the one telling me)

Here is the link: http://www.petstep.com

I think I got ours from Costco on line? It's aluminum & telescoping, very light weight and stores in my compartment.

Yep, that's the way we do it with our Great Pyrenees. She sits up top until one of us get outside on the ground and then she follows. With her going first to get in the coach, it gives all of us more room. It did take a few tries for her to get comfortable with the five steps, but now it is second nature for her.

We have a PetStep. It has been used by several generations of German Shepherds over many years. For the last several years my wife has also needed to use it, as she has lots of trouble with stairs now. I put a milk crate at the half way point to give the ramp lateral stability now that my wife uses it.

Note IMO steer clear of carpeted ramps, and metal surface ramps. They are no fun when wet and muddy. The PetStep is rubber, with support ridges for claws to grip, and easily cleaned.
