I tow a Toyota Tacoma behind a 38 foot class A and on occasion will tow my flatbottom boat behind the Tacoma on short local trips.(in Arkansas) I have never had any problems. I am thinking about making and out of state trip and would like to take my boat along. Weight is not a problem as the boat and trailer weigh less than 1000 lb and the Tacoma weighs 3800 lb. Total length is around 70 feet. Does anyone know where to research what is legal with this or had any experience. I was in Texas recently and saw a 45 footer towing a 4 door F-150 with a 21 foot bass boat behind the the F-150. He was pulling into a Wal-Mart parking lot and I stop way back and gave him plenty of room.

Check the DMV web site of the state where you want to go. What you are describing is "triple Towing" and is illegal in some states, as well as there are overall lenght restrictions in some states. Just Google the state you want and Department of Motor Vehicles and it should come up.

Was returning home from a trip this last summer and came up behind this rig. This was the best opportunity I had to get a photo of this. So "double" towing is legal in many states and Indiana is one of them.

so just because you see somebody doing it you conclude that it is "legal". lots of states require double towing to be a pickup, 5er and boat such as Minn. IIRC.

That combo would not be legal in Michigan:-
- The first connection must be a fifth wheel hook-up, not a ball
- The overall length would also be a violation (65' max)
Not saying it's illegal everywhere and obviously some people "get away with it".
But I sure wouldn't want to see the rig in the pic have to make a real "pedal to the floor" emergency stop!

The web site offered by jzick is pretty good. Also Trailer Life CG Directory has a table showing strate by state rules. As I ubderstand them most states only allow multiple towing when the tow vehicle is a fifth wheel. You will be taking chances in most other states.
