I think it is all in the opinion of each person,I personally love tinkering repairing, updating ,replacing, and changing things on our coach,,I am almost always looking for something to do to it....just like a stick house if you want to you can find something that needs to be done no matter how minor.....I do 100% of the work on our coach and love doing it but as far as it being a money pit I would say like others here not really,,I try to keep things tip top and when something needs to be replaced I try to upgrade in the process,,,that being said I constantly think about the people who must hire everything done,,,if I were in that category I may think its a money pit,,,As far as Gobbling time they do if you maintain them yourself, if you hire everything including wash/wax then not much time, but for me the maintaining is half the Fun !!

We bought ours new in 2002 and haven't had any major issues just normal stuff. All coaches have little things go wrong from time to time and occasionally a major thing. You can't let it worry you. Just get out there and enjoy yourself.

There is no better way to explore our great country than taking your RV to repair shops in towns from Great Atlantic Ocean to the Wide Pacific shore. You never feel rushed, since the repairs always seem to take weeks. Parts are usually delivered by Pony Express, so you are helping keep living history alive. It's only time and money and since I have a limited amount of each I feel an RV is only doing it's job in seeing that I run out of both at the same time.

MH'ing is a hobby. As such it cost money. Since we own the coach I have not once had anybody but me do any work on the coach.

This post is all tongue-in-cheek fun. We are SO ready to get back into this lifestyle with all of you!!

Just remember that something that is twice as complicated (house and vehicle combined) is 4 times the grief.
That being said, we bought a used 6 year old MH that appeared in good condition. We did buy new tires, replace the shocks, added rear air bags, and got it aligned in the beginning. Since then the windshields cracked coming out a steep driveway (cost us nothing); the plastic drain plug in the water heater needed replacing (a little work as it twisted off, but only a cost a $1 or $2; and the cover over one slide needed replacing (about $150 and I did the labor). Also, put new brake pads on which cost me $150 (I did the labor again). Other than that, routine oil and filter changes.
I don't consider that grief at all------especially considering I have driven it another 25,000 miles and it is now 10 years old.

I have had my rig for three years with no problems. I keep up with my Preventive Maintenance and proper winterizing to head off any issues.
Unfortunately, as with all forums (computer, vehicle, pet, etc.) all you hear about are the problems. This gives one the idea that they should avoid (like the plague) whatever that forum is all about. I'll bet if everyone on this forum posted their positive experiences they would far outweigh the negative/problems!

We have had about $3,500 in repairs in 3 years of owning our now 11 year old MH. Don't ask what it cost to rapair/replace the stuff we broke all by ourselves. Last trip we introduced Mr. Winegard Dome to Mr. Low Bridge in Chicago.
It's still cheaper than Vegas, London, Paris or Rome. And, we have more fun.
